SECRETS OF SUCCESS ~ Lessons from the Past for the Future.

1. People succeed because they take pains to succeed. Industry and patience are almost genius; and successful people are often more distinguished for resolution and perseverance than for unusual gifts. They make determination and unity of purpose more important than ability.

2. Success is the reward of those who "spurn delights and live laborious days”. We learn to do things by doing them. One of the great secrets of success is "pegging away”. No disappointment must discourage, and a run back must often be allowed, in order to take a longer leap forward.

4. A fatal mistake is to imagine that success is some stroke of luck. This world is run with far too tight a rein for luck to interfere. Luck sells its wares; it never gives them. In some form or other, we pay for luck; or we go empty away.

PENTECOST – A BIRTHDAY FOR SPIRITUAL RESOULUTION There is a story told of a farmer so down on his luck, that he was forced to accept handouts to survive. Each day, as he looked after his remaining sheep, he worried about his own survival. One day, he was visited by a scientist who sought his permission to test-drill for oil. An arrangement was made and, within a week, a drilling crew arrived. Two days later a huge oil reserve was found. The poverty–stricken farmer was now a millionaire. All along he owned all that oil with its great potential, yet he was unaware of it. It could be said that we are somewhat like the farmer. We plod along through our Christian lives unaware of the potential of the Spirit that is available to us, that is lying just below the surface of our minds and hearts. The disciples at the first Pentecost were a group of demoralised people, whose future was uncertain after the death of their inspirational leader. Yet, after the coming of the Holy Spirit, they were transformed into persons with remarkable courage to take Christ to the people around them and to other lands and cultures. Pentecost is the Church’s birthday, the day it was gifted with the presence of God through the Holy Spirit. It was the day the Church was given life, the life that is in us as we are entrusted to be the Church today; it is through us that God’s love is distributed throughout the world. The Church is the people of God, united and empowered by God to share God’s love with the world. However, this will occur only if we activate the potential of the Spirit within us. Prayer “Spirit of God within us,

We ask you to help identify The gifts that you have given separately to each of us.

Help us to celebrate these gifts And to make positive use of them in our daily activities. Amen.”

Dear members of the SACC family, Bullying is an issue all work places have policies around. SACC is no different. However, at this College we can look at many proactive measures, from our BE-Attitudes to out Pastoral Care Program, that attempt to prevent instances of bullying. On the whole I believe we do a great job, but is important for us to collect data to back up our hunches. Next week, on Monday 16th June, we will be conducting a Bullying Survey for all students at the Huntingfield Campus. The Pastoral Care Team, that is made up of our Councilor, Learning Cetre Coordinators and myseld, has been working on this for a while so as to fain an accurate understanding of the type of byllying that occurs, its frequency and its location. From the information we receive in the survey we want to develop pro-active strategies to minimise bullying at the Huntingfield Campus. According to the website Stop Bullying, bullying is defined as …unwanted, aggressive behavior that involves a real or perceived power imbalance. The behavior is repeated, or has the potential to be repeated, over time. I include a link to this website that is an excellent resource as well as the Mind Matters website that many college, including this one, use as a template on how to have whole school measures that support Australian secondary schools to promote and protect student mental health and wellbeing. http://www.stopbullying.gov/index.html http://www.mindmatters.edu.au/ I encourage families to look over these websites together, discuss the issues raised and open up the opportunity for families to get in touch with members of the Pastoral Care Team if we can help in any way.

ST ALOYSIUS ONLINE CLASSROOM ACCESS FOR PARENTS Edmodo is in use from grades 5 to 10. Parents have access to their child’s progress via a parent account. Edmodo is an educational website that takes the ideas of a social network and refines them and makes it appropriate for a classroom. Using Edmodo, students and teachers can reach out to one another and connect by sharing ideas, problems, and helpful tips. A teacher can assign and grade work on Edmodo; students can get help from the entire class on Edmodo. It is a safe environment. There is no bullying or inappropriate content, because the teacher can see everything that is posted on Edmodo. Also parents can join the class to bring a level of transparency that is difficult to achieve without technology. Parents can view their child's progress, what work has been set and when it is due. Further information: www.sacc.edmodo.com Parents can access the Edmodo account setup page here - www.sacc.edmodo.com For help setting up a parent account - www.edmodo.mediacore.tv/media/edmodo-parent-account-tutorial Further information and links can be found on our website here - www.staloysius.tas.edu.au/teaching-and-learning/edmodo/

Have a great week.

MUSIC EXCURSION On Friday, we went to Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra. We watched a production called the Peasant Prince. This was a great story. There were lots of different schools at the event. There were so many instruments! Flutes, cellos, harps, violins, zylophones - just to mention a few! When the conductor moved his hair would come flipping down. It was so funny, we couldn’t stop laughing. At the end there was a colouring-in book. It was a great day. Bella Adams and Jasmine Atkins, Grade 3 Students

BRAVEHEARTS - LAST THURSDAY On Thursday 5th June student had the opportunity to experience ‘The Ditto Show’ by the Bravehearts organisation. The show focused on personal safety and armed students with information and strategies to protect them from potential abuse: We believe that by providing our children with the basic principles of personal safety, we are providing them with the tools to stay safe. Just as teaching children the road rules cannot guarantee our children’s safety on the roads, no program can guarantee to “abuse-proof” our children but by teaching them the principles of personal safety we are giving them the knowledge they need to stay safe and know what to do if anything does happen. The session was very worthwhile. I would like to thank the St Aloysius Parents & Friends Association for funding this important initiative. Thank you to parents who attended the sessions. A student booklet was sent home with all students on Friday. This is a great opportunity to talk to your children about the show’s main messages through the activities provided in the booklet. ASSEMBLY TIMETABLE TERM TWO Term Two, Week Six, June 20 (Friday) - 4R & Prep WH at 1.45pm. This assembly is special as we have the Sisters of Charity attending to present a plaque to the College. VINNIES CLOTHING DRIVE All Huntingfield families should have received a Vinnies Clothing bag last week for our Vinnies Clothing Appeal. This year students can earn House points for every full bag of clothes brought in to school. The House that collects the most bags of clothes will receive bonus points. Families have until St. Aloysius Day, Friday 27th June, to bring in their clothes. As we are short of Vinnies bags, if you aren’t planning to use your bag, could you please return it to the College so other families can use it? Kingston families are more than welcome to bring in any donated clothes to the Kingston Campus Office over the next two weeks. Thanks so much for your support with this appeal, and thanks to our Vinnies/Mini-Vinnies students who worked hard last week preparing the bags and notices to send out. PARISH VOLUNTEERS As you are aware, we have a number of parishioners who regularly volunteer at our school. This week I would like to profile one of our new parish volunteers - Jeannette Harris. Jeanette started working in the Kinder R classroom this year. Here is what Mrs Andrea Reece, the Kinder R teacher, wrote about her volunteer: “Jeanette volunteers in Kinder R on Tuesday and Friday mornings. Having Jeanette in the class is like having another teacher, as she has a natural understanding of Kinders needs and is a calm, happy presence. The Kinders love having her and really miss her if she is away. Jeanette is happy to take on any task, whether it be craft, letter writing and number games, measuring, joining us on excursion and playing with us. We are so grateful to Jeanette!” MASSES Thanks to Mr Matt Gardner and Grade 3G students for preparing today’s Mass in the Parish at Kingston. Well done, too, to Mrs Su Heyward and the students from Grade 6HD who prepared a very special Mass at Huntingfield last Thursday to celebrate Pentecost and the coming of the Holy Spirit. This week Grade 9EG are preparing the Mass and parents are most welcome to join us in the Chapel at 10.20am.
