What’s Happening at Baldwin Center?

Baldwin Center is pleased to announce that they are a new sponsor of the summer feeding program in Pontiac. Each day throughout the summer Baldwin will be preparing healthy breakfasts and lunches which will be delivered throughout the City. Over 100 volunteers from Clarkston United Methodist Church came to Baldwin Center to transform its youth spaces. This week long mission trip, The Adult Righteous Mission Trip involved nearly 100 members of the Clarkston congregation. The group gathered at the church for breakfast and prayer then headed to Baldwin to get to work. The new facility was ready for the families for the registration open house on Friday evening. In order to celebrate a block party was held for the neighborhood. A bounce house, snow cones and hot dogs were served to over 150 people. Thank you Clarkston United Methodist Church for providing a warm, inviting, and enriching environment for our children to come to every day for academic support, enriching activities and most importantly, love.

The Baldwin Center is currently accepting donations of school supplies and backpacks for its annual backpack give away. Last year over 700 backpacks were distributed, enriching the learning process for many children around the Pontiac community. The Heart of Baldwin Gala was a great success and the Baldwin Center truly appreciates the generosity of all who attended. This first year event raised over $40,000 to help further the mission. We at Calvary continue to support this mission by serving there.

WL Community Garden

‘Tis the season to grow food to feed the hungry! We have distributed thousands of pounds of food to a local food bank these past few summers. So far this summer we have given over 500lbs to the Open Door in Waterford. To get involved simply write “Community Garden” on your Intouch card and give it to an usher or put in offering plate or call the church office. You can also find us on Facebook: White Lake Community Garden. Please join the Garden Team: • Monday & Wednesday, 6:00pm-8:00Ppm • Saturday mornings, 9:00am-12:00pm. If you have some free time available you can help. When you have many hands working in the garden it is lots fun. A garden leader will be on site during these times. Ministry Leader: Beth Burnett

Have Extra Garden Produce? The food pantries at Lighthouse Pontiac and Clarkston can use your excess garden produce to feed the hungry in our community. Either drop your produce off to the Clarkston office at Sashabaw & Waldon or at the Pontiac office on Wide Track. You can also leave your produce here in Clarkston and we will deliver it with our normal pantry delivery. Staff Contact: Deborah Robitaille

Summer Sermon Series “Bible Stories You

Thought You Knew” Adam and Eve, Noah’s Ark, Joseph and his “Technicolor Dreamcoat,” Jonah swallowed by a whale… or was it a fish? Many of us have heard these beloved Bible stories since we were children, and we might think that we know them pretty well. But do we really? In this summer sermon series we will take a fresh look at some very familiar stories in order to gain new perspectives and deeper insight into these “Bible Stories You Thought You Knew.”

Bible stories included are Adam and Eve, Noah’s Ark, Joseph’s Coat of Many Colors, Moses, Joshua and the Walls of Jericho, Samson, Jonah, David and Goliath and Daniel in the Lion’s Den.

Circle of Caring Telephone friends

Recently an idea was discussed at the “Matter of Balance: Reducing the risk of falling” series: One simple but very effective strategy to help elders remain safe & independent in their own homes for as long as possible, is to have a loved one, neighbor, or friend call them on the phone just to “check in” each day and make sure everything is OK. Caring Companion Ministry would like to coordinate a “Circle of Caring” toward this effort. If you would like to receive a brief caring phone call each day, or if you would be willing to make such a caring phone call each day, or on certain days of the week, please let Cindy Dixon or Leslie Welbourn know at 248-625-3288 (church office) Ext. #216. Blessed to be a blessing!
