Today’s Order of Service

This morning’s service follows the Eucharistic Liturgy ‘Thanksgiving and Praise’ commencing on page 476 in the red New Zealand Anglican Prayer Book; the tunes for the hymns may be found in Common Praise, the blue hymn book in the pews;

Presider: Rev’d David van Oeveren Assistant Priest: Rev’d Dorothy Brooker Liturgist: Elisabeth Paterson Choir Director: Anthony Tattersall

Choral Setting: Darke in F

Introit: This is the truth sent from above - R V Williams Choir

Processional: At the name of Jesus CP380 - tune: Camberwell

1 At the name of Jesus every knee shall bow,

every tongue confess him King of glory now:

this the Father’s pleasure that we call him Lord,

who from the beginning was the might Word.

2 Humbled for a season, to receive a name

from the lips of sinners unto whom he came,

faithfully he bore it spotless to the last,

brought it back victorious, when from death he passed.

3 Name him, Christians, name him, with love strong as death,

but with awe and wonder and with bated breath:

he is God the Saviour, he is Christ the Lord,

ever to be worshipped, trusted, and adored.

4 In your hearts enthrone him; there let him make new

all that is not holy, all that is not true.

He is God the Saviour, he is Christ the Lord,

ever to be worshipped, trusted and adored.

5 When this same Lord Jesus shall appear again

in his Father’s glory, there with him to reign,

then may we adore him, all before him bow,

as our hearts confess him King of Glory now.

2 - Choir: I thank you for your faithfulness and love which excel all we ever knew of you. On the day I called, you answered; you increased the strength of my soul.

2 All division is made whole when we honour every soul, find the life of God in every you and me, as the fingers of a hand, as the grains that form the sand, as the cluster of the grapes upon the vine; as the threads upon a loom, as a field of flowers in bloom, as the cluster of the grapes upon the vine.

Recessional Hymn: Christ is the world’s true light tune: Nun Danket CP530

3 One Lord, in one great name unite all who have known you, cast out our pride and shame that hinder to enthrone you: the world has waited long, has laboured long in pain; to heal its ancient wrong come, Prince of peace, and reign!

SG432 - George Briggs

The Dismissal: Go now to love and serve the Lord. Go in peace. Amen. We go in the name of Christ.

1 Christ is the world’s true light,

its captain of salvation,

our daystar clear and bright;

desire of every nation:

new life, new hope awakes

where we accept his way;

freedom her bondage breaks

and night is turned to day.

2 In Christ all races meet,

their ancient feuds forgetting,

the whole round world complete

from sunrise to its setting:

when Christ is known as Lord

all shall forsake their fear,

to plough-share beat the sword,

to pruning hook the spear.

5 Take my motives and my will, all your purpose to fulfil; take my heart - it is your own, it shall be your royal throne.

6 Take my love - my Lord, I pour at your feet its treasure-store; take myself, and I will be yours for all eternity.

Cathedral’s Golden Anniversary

A weekend of celebrations - Friday 6th, Saturday 7th, & Sunday 8th October 2017 to mark the 50th anniversary of the conse-cration. Mark the dates in your diaries -

Brochures with programme details and Registration forms are available on the back table in the Cathedral now!

Bishop Andrew travelling to Papua New Guinea

The Anglican Church in Papua New Guinea (ACPNG) have announced that the Rt Rev’d Alan Migi will be enthroned as Archbishop on Sunday 3 September 2017 at a service in Lae. Bishop Andrew will be travelling to the service with Hugh McBain to represent the Diocese and the H&W Williams Trust respectively. The Bishop will be away in PNG for around a week from 28 August and the visit will include time in Port Moresby and Lae building on the relationships estab-lished with ACPNG over several years and more recently from the pilgrimage in 2015. Bishop Alan hosted Bishop Andrew in the Diocese of the Islands in 2015 along with pilgrims from other provinces.

Bishop Andrew and Hugh will also attend a missions partners meeting in Lae on the day following the enthronement to discuss future development of the relationship be-tween Waiapu and ACPNG.

Your prayerful support of Bishop Andrew, Hugh and all who are traveling to this sig-nificant service are welcome.

Waiapu has a special mission relationship with ACPNG on behalf of our province of Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia. Bishop Andrew would like to make a presentation to Bishop Alan on behalf of the Diocese and would welcome donations towards a gift for the occasion, hopefully a gift of pounamu. Bishop Andrew would also like to be able to support some of the local clergy with two chalices to support their itinerant ministry in remote places. A dona-tion from each parish of $50-$100 would greatly help these two projects to get un-derway.

Donations may be made direct to the Angli-can Diocese of Waiapu ANZ bank (Napier) account: 01-0685-0216161-00 with the ref-erence 7230/001 and your name.

Association of Anglican Women Special Diocesan Meeting

The AAW Diocesan meeting will be held on Saturday 2nd September, 10.00 am,

at St Andrew's Church, 110 Charles Street Westshore Napier.

For catering purposes, please contact the bishop’s PA Belinda Barnhill, email: [email protected]

As part of the Golden Anniversary celebrations, Bishop Richard Randerson will present two stim-ulating sessions in the Cathedral which will give us an opportunity to reflect on the world around us and the task ahead of us.

Friday 6th October, 6.30-7.30pm

At the Cutting Edge - 50 Years On The Gospel in the wake of our General Elections, Trump, Brexit, Neoliberalism. We live in trou-bled times, with growing numbers in our western society marginalised through poverty and ine-quality. Bishop Richard will critique the values underpinning NZ’s socio-economic realities and raise Gospel values of mutuality and well-being.

Saturday 7th October, 10am-1pm

At the Caring Edge - Missional Outreach to the City

As indicators of poverty, homelessness and hu-man need worsen, this seminar will assist us to identify local poverty and social need and help develop strategies in response. This workshop, based on a solid theological foundation for mis-sion, will include the experience of local people.

Admission to each session is by koha/donation - registration of numbers attending appreciated.
