It is a shock to be reminded of how quickly dreams and hopes can be shattered. In a moment when we experience life and death standing side by side, we are jolted into the reality that our certainties are not so certain. After the exhilaration of the Easter Sunday affirmation, “Christ is Risen,” the Second Sunday of Easter gives way to the fear and doubt of the broken hopes and dreams of Jesus' disciples. Their fear was contagious, producing doubt within us. But our doubt is productive. Our search for the truth and the answer to our question “Did Jesus rise from the dead?” opens us to recognize the risen Lord. As we seek the Lord, He comes to us, blessing us with the peace, sending us forth to continue His mission, and empowering us with the gift of the Holy Spirit. Marriage Arrangements made by calling the Parish Office at least four months prior to setting a wedding date. Baptism Please call the parish office for more information on this process. Send Your Angel to Holy Mass O holy Angel at my side, Go to the church for me, Kneel in my place at Holy Mass Where I desire to be. At Offertory, in my stead, Take all I am and own, And place it as a sacrifice Upon the Altar throne. At holy consecration bell, Adore with seraph’s love My Jesus hidden in the Host Come down from Heav’n above. Then pray for those I dearly love, And those who cause me grief, That Jesus’ Blood may cleanse all hearts And suffering souls relieve. And when the priest communion takes, Oh, bring my Lord to me, That His sweet Heart may rest in mine And I His temple be. Pray that this Sacrifice Divine May Mankind’s sin efface; Then bring me Jesus’ blessing home The pledge of every grace. Anonymous

This year’s theme is “Love Never Fails”. “May Together in Action be for us a way to bring His mercy and compassion to others. May it be for us a way of exalting God, relying on his strength and righteousness as we recognize our total and complete dependence on Him.”

  • Fr. Kevin’s Cluttered Desk The Second Sunday of Easter is one of those very unique celebrations. You see the Gospel is always the same Gospel but the readings and psalm change with the three- year cycle. This Gospel and the event, are noted by the Council of Trent as marking the institution of the Sacrament of Reconciliation, the Mercy of God. Trent refers to it as the “sacrament of pardon” and it was instituted under a double sign of the Saviour’s peace on this most joyful day in the history of the world. The power of forgiveness (pardon) was given to the Apostles and entrusted down through the ages through the Apostolic succession. Part and parcel with this is the story of Thomas, which tends to be the better known and more focused on element of the Gospel. Still, St. Augustine of Hippo (354 to 430 AD) in his commentary on this section of St. John makes reference to Jesus as the physician capable of healing to bring us to salvation. This healing action is the mercy of God. It is by God’s abundant love for us, that we feel His forgiveness and mercy. For He takes away the sins of the world, and He has given this power and duty to the Apostles and their successors. And so the question is, do we have the courage and humility to go/come to Him to ask and receive, this wondrous gift of mercy? So, why the primary focus on Thomas? Well, it’s actually very simple. If we don’t believe in God, that something that is greater than us, that something that sets down the rules for life, then where is forgiveness? Thomas is all about the question of believing. Put another way, what is the point of asking for forgiveness if you don’t think you will be forgiven? What is the point of asking for forgiveness if you are not sorry? Sorrow and mercy here walk hand in hand. The other person has to believe in sorrow and “I” need to believe in mercy/forgiveness. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have come to believe. I may not be able to see that you are sorry, and you may not be able to see or understand my mercy, but because we believe in sorrow and mercy and because we believe in the need for mercy and sorrow, both are capable of flowing. May we experience true sorrow for our sins and failings and may the mercy of God flow abundantly in our lives.

    Peace Fr. Kevin

All who believed were together and had all things in common. (Acts 2.44)Everything we are and all that we have come from God. As stewards, we return our being and our belongings to God in service to one another. We gather to share ourselves and we give to share our belongings.

    Stewardship Reflection

This saddens us greatly and is a decision we do not take lightly, but we feel that this is the prudent course of action to keep everyone safe.Comin’ Alive Camp will be back in 2021!Concerns, comments and discussions can be sent to Camp Co-Coordinator Helen Manzara at [email protected]

Every Tuesday during the Easter season, the Blessed Sacrament will be exposed in the upper window of the parish office at Assumption from 8 until midnight. You are invited to pray your Rosary reflecting on the Sorrowful Mysteries and pray for the needs of the world, our country, our Community.
