PRE-ADVANCED TEEN 1 – Card 1_01

Unit 1 – ADVERBIALS

Situation: Alice and Jennifer are talking about the test they’ve just done.

Directions: Read the dialogue and identify the adverbials.

Alice: The test was extremely hard, wasn’t it?

Jennifer: Actually, I thought it would be harder.

Alice: But I bet you studied a lot.

Jennifer: I always study as much as you do. The problem is that you got sick and missed

many classes.

Alice: That’s true. I was really sick. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have been absent for so many

days.

Jennifer: I know that. You are a very responsible student.

Alice: But I’m a little bit worried about my final grades. I usually get A’s and now I’ll

probably have only C’s. That’s not enough to get in the university I want.

Jennifer: Don’t worry, Alice. I’m sure you went pretty well. In general, teachers are not

that strict when correcting tests.

Alice: I hope you are right. Luckily, Jason was at home on the weekend and he helped

me to study math, which is the most difficult subject for me.

Jennifer: And remember that we have some extra points for that project we did last month.

Alice: Oh, that’s true. I’m much more relieved now.

Situation: Jordan is in a small town in France studying French. He wrote an e-mail to

his mother telling her how his first week in the city has been.

Directions: Read the e-mail and put the words in bold in the right column of the chart

below. Then complete the chart according to the example.

Hi mom, how are you doing? I’m having a great time. Some people here are not

very friendly but I was lucky because my host family is really nice and they are helping me a lot. I’ve already been through some embarrassing moments because I still have trouble with the language and the cultural difference is huge. But I’m getting used to living here and I’m not so scared as I was before.

Since I got here it’s been very cold but today it’s slightly warmer so I could go to school by bike. I enjoy the city exactly because you can go everywhere easily by bike or on foot.

Well, I have to go now. I miss you a lot. Love,

Jordan
