Review of a Foundational Principle

• At creation, light was separated from darkness (B’reshith/Genesis 1:4), not the light of the heavenly bodies (1:14) but rather referring to the heavenly realm where YHVH exists and to which we are called – Thus, the pattern of tahor (ritual purity) and tamei (ritual

impurity) is established

• This is not “just temple talk” but an eternal pattern

– Melech David asked that a “lev tahor,” or a pure heart, be created in him (Tehillim/Psalms 51:10) followed closely by “cast me not away from thy presence” (v. 11)

– YHVH’s presence can be found only if we are walking in the “tahor” way, contrary to what many believe and practice


Review of a Foundational Principle

• This principle is exemplified in the Didache, which says “There are two ways, one of life and one of death, and wide is the difference between.” – The way of life is this: First, thou shalt love God thy Maker

[after Deut. vi. 5]; Second, thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself [after Lev. xix. 18]. Now the teaching of these two words is this: ‘Whatsoever thou wouldst not have done unto thee, neither do thou to another.’ (Ch. 1:1-2)

– The way of death, on the other hand, is this: It is evil and accursed—murders, adulteries, lust, illicit sex, thefts, idolatries, magical arts, sorceries, robberies, false testimonies, hypocrisy, double-heartedness, deceit, haughtiness, depravity, self-will, greediness, filthy talking, jealousy, over-confidence, loftiness, boastfulness—those who do not fear God. (Ch. 5:1)

The action itself is not bad. Operating in the wrong way is what is bad. Do not do as the nations do, because they operate in a tamei way, not in a tahor way. But do not quench the working of the Ruach Hakodesh, nor despise the gifts.


Review from Last Time

• We examined the law regarding our responsibilities in the areas of idolatry, the occult, and man-stealing

• We defined these areas and gave two examples of the consequences of breaking the law in these areas, from the Prophets and the Writings

• We touched on an application for the Redeemed Community as it relates to Matthew 5:27-28

Summary So Far

• Shmuel Alef/1 Samuel 18 – Shaul seeks the witch of En-dor for guidance because

YHVH has turned His back to Shaul on account of his disobedience

• 1 Samuel 15:23, “For rebellion is like the sin of sorcery, stubbornness like the crime of idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of YHVH, He too has rejected you as king.”

• Here, we see the “beginning” of the sin of sorcery and the crime of idolatry – rebellion and stubbornness, which are “heart” problems – specifically, they are found in a defiled (tamei) heart

• What do we see in this story? – Joy comes after the Messiah is proclaimed and received,

and miracles follow, as well as immersions

– Not everyone who is following and who is baptized is free from their old ways

• Shim’on was yet poisoned by bitterness and bound by unrighteousness (lev tamei), causing him to misinterpret gifting, which he tried to buy

• Even after correction, he is not truly in relationship with the Master, and instead seeks the prayers of others instead of seeking the Master himself – he’s still in darkness

Summary

• The choice to walk in the way of life or the way of death was given to us at Creation

• Human beings continuously and persistently seem to desire the way of death, as evidenced both by scripture and by contemporary examples

Hostage Taking

• Exodus 21:16 (KJV) And he that stealeth a man, and selleth him, or if he be found in his hand, he shall surely be put to death.

• What does “stealeth” mean?

– Wrongfully taking objects or persons

– Can carry the connotation of deceiving or outwitting

– Stealing people is kidnapping, and the penalty is death

• We do not have to look too far for examples of actual kidnapping, but what does that “heart condition” really look like?

Hostage Taking

• When we impose our will on other people, causing them to be in bondage, we are in effect wrongfully taking them over

• When we make ultimatums in an effort to emotionally manipulate people to do our will, this could be called “hostage taking”

• When we restrict people from honestly expressing themselves to rather express our thoughts, this is the heart condition that precedes manstealing

• Anything that we do outside of the Father’s will that causes others to follow our will instead of His is a form of kidnapping

Manipulation

• We have seen that occult activity involves working in the dark, behind the scenes, manipulating people and circumstances toward a preferred end

• Manipulation is exerting your will ahead of the Father’s will over a situation or circumstance – People can be manipulated through body language, facial

expressions, tone of voice, word choice, physical touch

– Circumstances can be manipulated through lies, deceit, meddling, gossip, slander, withdrawal of affection, cutting off communication

• We have been instructed to stay away from this kind of behavior, from beginning to end

The Sin of Witchcraft

• We have seen that witchcraft involves “reading the signs” and interpreting them in such a way that we manipulate circumstances and people to our own advantage

• This is in opposition to discernment and righteous judgment according to Torah standards

• This kind of behavior is idolatrous because it puts us in a position of authority meant only for our Father

• We, in fact, “play God” when we are involved in this kind of behavior

• We have come from a religious system that is not based on the law of Elohim, but rather rejects the Torah in favor of man’s traditions

• We must diligently examine our own minds, our own hearts, and ask each other for help in this process, so we can uncover every bit of rebellion and stubbornness and put it to death

• Why? So we can free ourselves from the bondage of Babylon and prepare ourselves to enter into the Kingdom of Elohim

• Relationships with those “back in the church,” whether family or friends, will become increasingly strained

• Recognize there is a process of “deprogramming” that must take place because of the many lies you have believed

Understanding the Commandments

• I mentioned that there was a remedy for us in Messiah’s words in this passage from what is often called “The Sermon on the Mount”

• If we understand the seriousness of breaking “even the least of these,” we will have every opportunity to die to our selfishness, our pride, our passing judgment, our manipulation and control, our laziness, and every other character flaw you can think of

• We should welcome the Father’s work in us to put our flesh to death, instead of avoiding it or kicking against the goads

• Let’s put these verses in context – Matthew 5:17-19 (GW) “Don’t ever think that I came to

set aside Moses’ Teachings or the Prophets. I didn’t come to set them aside but to make them come true. So whoever sets aside any command that seems unimportant and teaches others to do the same will be unimportant in the kingdom of heaven. told, ‘Do not murder,’ and that anyone who commits murder will be subject to judgment. • Let’s put these verses in context – Matthew 5:27-30 “You have heard that our fathers were

told, ‘Do not commit adultery.’ But I tell you that a man who even looks at a woman with the purpose of lusting after her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye makes you sin, gouge it out and throw it away! Better that you should lose one part of you than have your whole body thrown into Gei-Hinnom. And if your right hand makes you sin, cut it off and throw it away! Better that you should lose one part of you than have your whole body thrown into Gei-Hinnom.”

Implications

• Minor sins lead to major sins, so repent early and now!

• We need to be aware of the condition of our own hearts, which are deceitfully wicked, and corrupt beyond words, until they are fully engaged in the process of transformation

– Even then, monitoring and maintenance are required

• How is that transformation accomplished? By removing the lies from our minds and walking in the true way that He has given us

• Otherwise, the penalty for sin is death

Final Thoughts

• These two lessons have barely scratched the surface of what idolatry is, and how ensnared we are in it

• I encourage you to diligently study out this subject and understand from our Father’s perspective just what is meant by it

• Work toward building relationships with one another that are healthy and which allow you to speak honestly into each other’s lives about walking in a tahor way

• Let go of your idols, your preferences, your own plans, and submit to the guidance of His abiding presence, which can only be found by walking in a tahor way

Final Thoughts

• Also, while it is important to understand the Babylonian system and how it is operating to bring about its crowning achievement – full-blown humanism, idolatry of the worst form – your time might be better spent studying and applying scripture rather than conspiracy theories and “end time prophecy” promulgated by man

• At the end of the day, you want to be able to measure your own closeness to YHVH and Yeshua, and see that closeness increasing

• Remember, knowledge puffs up, but He hears the prayers of the humble and contrite
