PRE-SESSIONAL ENGLISH
FOR ACADEMIC PURPOSESCourses 2015-16
Get ready to study in the UK
A Pre-sessional English for Academic Purposes course will help you:
to improve your English Language(grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation)
to improve your academic English skills (for writing assignments, understanding lectures,
participating in seminars, reading, making presentations)
to develop the Study Skills you need to succeed (understanding assignments, participating in
group work, managing your time, identifying and using sources of information)
to understand UK academic conventions so you know how to do well in your studies
to improve your social English and understanding of British culture
to get to know other students from around the world
Students who successfully complete a Pre-sessional English for Academic Purposes course at
the required level for their chosen degree programme will be deemed to have met the English
language requirements for their course in UCLan and dont need to take an additional IELTS test.
Class hours per week: 20 hours per week or 25 hours per week (Intensive course)
Assessment:A combination of coursework (60%) and final test (40%)
Certificate of completion: Showing marks for writing, speaking, reading & listening
Class sizes: Maximum of 20 students per class
Minimum age: 18

Choose the course which is right for you depending on your current level of English and the level
specified on your offer letter or in the entry requirements for your chosen course.
If you are holding a conditional offer for a UCLan course, your application for a pre-sessional
course will be dealt with by UCLans International Office. They will also help you to arrange
accommodation.
If you are not applying through the International Office, please download an application form
from the course page on the UCLan website http://www.uclan.ac.uk/courses/pre_sessional_english_
language_programme.php
If you require accommodation and are not applying through the International Office, please
contact us at the email address below and we will discuss your needs. We can arrange single,
en-suite, self-catering accommodation in halls of residence within 10 minutes walking distance
of the teaching building for 100-120 per week.
PAYMENT
Payment for the course must be made during the first week as part of the enrolment process.
