Precision ram adjustment (DP)As toggle presses do not achieve their maximumforce until bottom dead center (BDC), adjusting theheight of the press head by means of the threadedspindle is often too inaccurate. The precision ramadjustment enables the press pressure point to beprecisely set directly at the ram. The scale on theadjustment ring enables the fine setting to be readoff to 0.02 mm. The adjustment range is ±1.5 mm.The precision ram adjustment is used when theutmost precision is required for the press depth.Ideal for prototype manufacture and serialproduction when accurate and easy adjustmentwithin the tolerance range is required.

Micrometer stop (MICRO)The micrometer stop is used with rack and pinionpresses for high-precision assembly work or forwhen the tool has to be accurately positioned. Thisenables the press stroke length to be accuratelyadjusted to 0.01 mm

Return travel lock (HS)The return travel lock for toggle and rack and pinionpresses is an effective contribution to quality assuranceduring production. The return travel lock rules outpartial strokes and therefore incomplete operations.Forming, assembly and joining operations are alwaysreliably and completely executed, as the return strokeof the press is blocked on the downward stroke. Theinterlock is only released and the lever can only bereturned when the stroke is complete. The Quick-Release mechanism enables this inhibit to be releasedand jammed parts to be removed in any position. TheQuick-Release is automatically deactivated when thelever is returned.

Table bore (TB)The bottom part of the tool can be mounted in thecentric table bore. Fixing is by means of a transversescrew in all models up to 80 mm throat. The tablebore enables the tool to be changed quickly andreduces set-up time. The alignment accuracy of theram bore with the table bore is <0.05 mm.

stroke counter (Z)A rapid overview of the number of items producedcan be obtained with the five-digit stroke counter.The number of items can be reset.

This means higher output through optimum destressing:with ERGOPRESS®, cramped and incorrect posture duringoperation is a thing of the past. This reducesabsenteeism, increases the motivation of personnel,makes work easier and lowers production costs.

Manual toggle presses with roundram EP series / L-EP series withextra-high daylight

Toggle presses only produce their rated force atthe end of the stroke, the bottom dead center(BDC). In doing so, the high working pressure ofthe press is achieved using the toggle mechanismwith a relatively low effort (approximately 150N) from the user.

Toggle presses are therefore used where the fullforce of the press is only required over a shortdistance at the end of the working stroke, e.g. inassembling, punching, riveting, stamping, gluingetc.

All Baltec toggle presses are recognized by thefollowing quality features:

press head using a threaded spindle• hardened and ground ram• long, honed and therefore highly precise

L-presses are used wherever tall or long parts are eithermachined or pressed in and therefore require a high daylight.

Wherever oversized components have to be processed, a larger throat is needed, for example to process PCB,sheet materials and similar pieces. For this purpose, Baltec XL presses with 250 mm throat are used.

The base is a durable welded construction on which the different standard press heads are mounted.

APK T-rangeThe extra powerful hand-operated toggle presses of the APK T 3 and APK T 4 ranges are especially suitable forthe frequently changing applications in model making and in the workshop. Their high forces of up to 30 kNenable them to be flexibly used for widely differing applications.

Manually assisted pneumatic toggle presses are used when, due tothe special nature of the workpiece, it is not initially possible touse both hands for two-handed operations and yet a largecompression force is required at the end of the working stroke.

With NP manually assisted pneumatic toggle presses, safeworking is possible in these circumstances: the ram is brought tothe pressure position of the stroke using the hand lever and theworkpiece is then held by the force of this lever. A sensorregisters this position. At the same time, the workpiece can bereleased and a button pushed using the other hand, which theninitiates the power stroke.

The power stroke can only be initiated when both hands areoccupied. So, if the hand lever is released, the ram is raised by asafety mechanism and the enable signal for the power stroke inthe control system is removed.

The length of the power stroke in NP manually assistedpneumatic toggle presses and hence the BDC position canbe set with high accuracy using the standard precisionadjustment facility. Thanks to the specially designedtransmission mechanism, a uniform pressure is availableover the whole length of the selected stroke.

DIRECT-ACTING PNEUMATIC PRESSES

DA series

DA presses are the logical implementation of modernpress technology for direct-acting pneumatic presses.Due to their modular design, exactly the size neededfor the application can be selected, thus optimizing theprice/performance ratio.

Standard stroke lengths from 40 mm to 120 mm areavailable in 20 mm steps. Special lengths can beprovided on request.

Direct-acting pneumatic presses produce a constantforce over the whole stroke length. All direct-actingpneumatic presses can be provided as automationcomponents or with Baltec IPC controllers for individualworkstations.

The processing of sheet metal, printed circuit boardsand other bulky components requires presses to have alarger throat. XL-DA presses with 250 mm and 300 mmthroat enable even these workpieces to be processed.L-DA presses with up to 350 mm daylight are used fortall parts which require more vertical space. Fordimensions which lie outside the standard, presses withpressframes in welded design can be manufactured toyour specifications.

DA presses are practically maintenance-free, as allmoving parts are mounted in bearings. Cylinders arepregreased and are therefore suitable for oil-freeoperation.

Other quality features:• Factory pre-set pressure point• Right-angled gearbox for simple height adjustment of the press head

• Side-mounted measuring strip for fast reproduction ofsettings when changing the tool

• Practically maintenance-free double-acting cylinder• Low noise: less than 75 dB

DA series with round ramL-DA series with round ram, daylightwith 350 mm

Adjusting the stroke of DA pressesDA presses are fitted as standard with an innovative,precise and easy-to-use system which enables accuratestroke adjustment and protects the ram againsttwisting.

Operation:• The press depth can be adjusted to a reading

accuracy of 0.05 mm over the whole stroke length with only one scale nut (A). The stroke length can be read off using the side scale (B) and the vernier on the scale nut (A).

• The position of the ram can be checked by means of reed contacts (C) which are slid onto the standard scale.

• The sensors do not have to be readjusted when the stroke length is changed, as the stroke length control magnets always move to the sameend positions.

Tandem cylindersThe energy-efficient tandem cylinder design is usedfor larger forces. Several pneumatic cylinders areconnected in tandem thus increasing the force of thecylinder accordingly. The air consumption isoptimized, as the return stroke is only via one cylinderchamber. The press can be operated using only twoair connections, as the air is channelled within thepneumatic cylinder.

HYDROPNEUMATIC PRESSES HP

Baltec hydropneumatic presses are initially driven bycompressed air only and activate the hydraulic powerstroke automatically. They combine the advantages ofpneumatic and hydraulic presses. In the pneumaticallydriven fast stroke, the workpiece is approached rapidlywith low force. The hydraulic power stroke is thenactivated automatically when resistance is encountered.

Because of this, the applied energy is used to the mosteconomic effect particularly in these models. Theoperation of hydropneumatic presses is described on thefollowing page. As Baltec hydropneumatic presses donot need a hydraulic power pack, they can also be usedwhere space is at a premium. All hydropneumaticpresses can be provided with the standard Baltec IPCcontroller or with customer specified controllers.

The processing of sheet metal, printed circuit boards andother bulky components requires presses to have alarger throat. XL-HP presses with 300 mm throat enableeven these parts to be processed. For dimensions whichlie outside the standard, presses with stands in weldeddesign can be manufactured to your specifications.

HYDROPNEUMATIC PRESSES HP

Description of operation:

Starting position:Compressed air is applied to the compressed air line (1);the rest of the system is unpressurized.

Fast stroke (A):Pressure is applied to the fast stroke piston (2) via thecompressed air connection (3). The piston moves out andpushes the power stroke piston (4) down by means of theoil at high speed onto the workpiece.

Power stroke (B):The changeover unit (5) now switches overautomatically; the plunger (6) is pressurized withcompressed air, moves out and closes the oil chambercausing the power transmission to take place. The ram(4) moves out at reduced speed and with increasedforce in the power stroke.

Return stroke (C):System reversal; all pistons return simultaneouslywith pneumatic force. 37

TPC-MIDI PROCESS MONITORING

Applications:Joining and assembly processes using presses musttoday be carried out safely and if possible withoutretrospective checking. Specified parameters whichdefine the press process must be maintained duringproduction. Only in this way can the quality and safetyof the manufactured product be guaranteed. For thisreason, TPC-MIDI is used wherever consistent joiningprocesses are required, the progress of which has to bechecked and if applicable documented by meansof software.

TPC-MIDI monitors the press operation, compares theactual progress with the requirements and subsequentlyevaluates it. In this way, reject parts can be reliablydetected and separated out.

TPC-MIDI can be used both with hand-operated pressesand with pneumatic presses. In the case of pneumaticpresses, the MPS-1 TPC controller is supplied togetherwith a PLC onto which the type-tested two-hand MPS-1safety controller is superimposed.

However, the TPC-MIDI is also available as a pure systemcomponent if a PLC environment already exists, e.g. inan automation system.

Quality features:• TPC-MIDI can be programmed via the membranekeyboard or conveniently using the PC software.

TPC-MIDI PROCESS MONITORING

Monitoring window

The following monitoring windows can be created withTPC-MIDI:

Pass-through window (1)

The force/displacement curve must pass through thewindow from the entry to the exit side as definedwithout one of the other window boundaries beinginfringed. The entry and exit sides can be freely selected.

Envelope curve (2)

The measuring curve must pass continuouslythrough the envelope curve and must not infringeit. The envelope curve is taught by means of ateach-in process. Its X-axis parameters and the delta-Y, i.e. the force tolerance range, are definedsubsequently.

Block window (3)

The block window monitors the final values of thepress operation. With this type of window, theforce/displacement curve must enter the specifiedentry side and must not leave the window again.

Programmable trigger points can be defined if thepart geometry demands it. By programming thetrigger point, the X-axis positions of the evaluationwindow are matched to the press operation and thenrefer to the trigger zero point.
