*Growing up Caucasian in Utah*African Americans and other Ethnic Groups*Muslim Brotherhood*Hate Groups*White Power*Interpreting Media Presentations*White Extremists*Teaching Tolerance and Reaching Out


*I didn’t realize that many or some ethnic people harbored such deep seated feelings against white people.*Reading and researching

some of the happenings and confrontations that black people faced was a reminder of how far back the problems go.

Growing up Caucasian in Utah


*Some white people simply do not grasp what the situation is like for African Americans and other ethnic groups.*Segregation,

discrimination and hate were a part of the African American persons life almost everywhere in the U.S. since before the 70’s.



*Those that grew up in places like Utah in the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s have a hard time fathoming the scope of the racism problem.



*I graduated from high school in 1974. There was one black family that had children in our school.Growing up Caucasian in Utah


*Because of this we were ignorant about the problems of prejudice and racism at the time.Growing up Caucasian in Utah


*I honestly never thought of ethnic people as any different from me.Growing up Caucasian in Utah


*When growing up I assumed that we were all the same, just kids at school.Growing up Caucasian in Utah


*I thought we all were Americans.



*Sometimes children are told things by their parents.The Self Fulfilling Prophecy


*Inadvertently many ethnic people have been taught that the white majority is against them.The Self Fulfilling Prophecy


*They have been told you can’t do this or….

*We do not have enough money for this….

*People settle into a way of life assuming lesser positions because of the self fulfilling prophecies….

*In 2010 just over one third of the U.S. population reported themselves as something other than non Hispanic-White.African Americans and other Ethnic

Groups


*Traditionally we think of prejudice as being encountered by ethnics in America not the dominant White group.

*Prejudice and discrimination can be promoted by radical religious groups.*Teaching hate in the

name of a cause.Hate Groups


*This group originated in Cairo 80 years ago and they gave birth to the current entire terrorist network threatening the world today.*They have roots in

America now. Most associate the name with extremist thought and terrorism .

*The U.S. Justice Department has identified a minimum of 61 Muslim Brotherhood figures and entities operating within the U.S.

* “Elements of the Muslim Brotherhood here and overseas have supported terrorism,” FBI Director Robert Mueller confirmed earlier this month during a House intelligence committee hearing.” (Wind.com 2011)

*People have been caught in the act of planning these Jihads and large amounts of weapons and ammo have been confiscated.

*Watching the news and other media programs we need to consider the source and recognize that there are motivations for these programs.

*In an 11-day period this January, a neo-Nazi was arrested as he headed for the Arizona border with a dozen homemade grenades.

*a terrorist bomb attack on a Martin Luther King Jr. Day parade in Spokane, Wash., was averted when police dismantled a sophisticated bomb.

*A man who officials said had a long history of antigovernment activities was arrested in a car filled with explosives outside a packed mosque in Dearborn.

*That’s in addition to the attempted assassination of U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords in Arizona, an attack that left six dead that same month. The assailant appeared to be severely mentally ill….

*There are still remnants of people left that think they are superior because they are white.*These are a small

minority of the U.S population.

*Shortly after president Obama took office reports of White Power groups gaining momentum began to rise.White Extremists


*He had as many as 30 death threats a day just after he took office.

*People are angry because of domestic problems at home and they direct their anger to ethnic people and immigrants.(Big Noise Films)

*Organizations like the White Knights of America say that white pride is the only thing they have to stand on.

*White crowds flocked to see president Obama inaugurated in 2008.White Extremists


*There was a small percentage of white power groups there also.

*They were there to protest against a black man being president.

*Hundreds of websites have sprung up promoting white supremacy.White Extremists


*The National Supremacist Movement has 80 chapters nationwide. (NSM)*They protest, marching,

wearing uniforms many having the Nazi sign tattooed on their arms or neck.

*They are fighting for survival of the white race.*Watching them march

and yell is scary to see the hate in their faces.

*The NSM National Supremacist Movement has ties to the National Socialist Movement-Nazi Germany.

*In 2010 a U.S. government report placed white supremacist groups as the most dangerous domestic threat.White Extremists


*In Arizona admitted White Supremacists killed a Mexican man at his mobile home. His 10 year old daughter called 911. The call was recorded.

*She said “people came and shot my dad” and then said, “they ’re coming back in the house,” you could hear gun shots. They killed her too. (Big Noise Films)

*Affirmative action was founded in 1974 to help educate the public and help erase all forms of discrimination. Headquarters are in Washington D.C. Groups like this are a positive influence on our society and help to keep things in check as far as fairness.



*They are concerned about civil rights that were enacted to confront discrimination and ensure equal rights for all race, color, religion, age, people with disabilities and national origin are the focus of affirmative action groups and legislation.



*The American Civil Liberties Union is an organization that is dedicated to helping ensure that all Americans receive equal rights. The rights spoken of in our nations Bill of Rights..



*freedom of speech, expression, and association; freedom of religion, including the separation of church and state; the right to privacy; safe prison and jail conditions; and equal protection and due process of our laws.



*The United Way. This organization helps people and organizes community partners to help people.



*The United Way operates with volunteers and helps a people with all kinds of resources if help is needed.Teaching Tolerance and Reaching

*Religions and spiritual advisors usually promote peace and love through taking care of your fellow man.



*Religions and spiritual advisors give people a chance to interact and accept each other.Teaching Tolerance and Reaching

*Acts of violence against others are against the law. Teaching Tolerance and Reaching

*Our laws prosecute offenders, promote peace and offer protection against hate crimes.



*Too many innocent people have been harmed because of extremism.Teaching Tolerance and Reaching

*We as people need to avoid extremists and operate from a more concerned approach to humanity and survival.



*Associate with people who promote peace and goals that ensure love of life and human survival.Teaching Tolerance and Reaching

*Avoid power struggles but be accepting of each other.



*We need to recognize greed and power when we see it in the form of discrimination and racism.
