PREP CAMPUS EAGLE NOTES

In This Issue

Dr. Naterman - High School Principal/Interim Headmaster

As our chapels on both campuses have continued to explore the Names of God, I

have been reminded of just how magnificent our Heavenly Father is as a provider for

all of our needs. In reflecting on this truth, I have been struck by the very tangible

ways I see God sustaining our school. This has been particularly encouraging as the

Administration and Board of Trustees work in partnership to plan for next year, taking

into careful consideration our projected enrollment numbers. Not only do our

projections reflect God’s faithful provision for our school, but they offer an ongoing

reminder of the opportunity we have to minister to families. I share this as a member

of the community who benefits from the extraordinary love and wisdom of other like-

minded followers of Christ!

So what are some tangible evidences for my optimism and excitement? Well, I am

glad you asked!

Our current Pre-K numbers are at an all-time high. With 45 age-eligible

kindergarten students in our Early Childhood Program, and well attended

kindergarten preview events, we expect to be full.

Next year’s senior class could be our largest graduating class in SCS History.

During this semester, we have had 17 prospective 9th grade families contact the

school to begin the admissions process.

Conversations concerning waiting lists in numerous grades have begun.

Seeds that are planted daily throughout the school year have reaped a harvest.

Following a recent chapel presentation, eight students professed their faith in

Christ!

It is clear that God has seen fit to bless Southwest Christian School. I personally ask

for your ongoing commitment to pray for our school, specifically asking for His

blessings on our teachers, staff and students. He is indeed our faithful provider!

In Him,

Shane Naterman, Ed.D.

Mid-term exams are here! Remember, the exams in middle school credit classes are worth 10% of your child's grade for the

semester. For high school credit classes (there are several in the middle school), the final exams are worth 20%.

Challenge your child to look through past tests and notes that they have collected this semester and begin the studying

process. An hour overview every night will help tremendously. Cramming for an exam just doesn't work! All programming

(yes, even how to study for final exams!) is part of "training them in the way they should go." Press on towards the goal!

Speaking of pressing on, the good news of the Gospel continues to press on and change the lives of those who open their

hearts. I love the Christmas season and the promise that comes with it. It is the promise of hope that we've found in our

Savior! Without His birth and the example of His 33 years with skin on, I would not know how to live. Without the example He

gave in his death on a cross, I would not know what an appropriate sacrifice looks like. Without Him defeating death, I would

not understand what true victory feels like! Praise God this season for He is worthy of our praise - seek Him and lead your

family toward the cross this Christmas and in the new year.

I love serving you all!

The President’s Fund

The President’s Fund was established in 2010 as a blessing to subsidize

tuition costs that go beyond the reach of our regular financial aid model.

The fund makes it possible for students to remain at SCS who might otherwise

have to leave. Examples can include helping families that are facing financial crisis

caused by health related issues, disruption in the home, or loss of employment.

The fund also makes it possible to subsidize tuition for qualifying

families of SCS faculty, families of clergy, and families of missionaries.

Donations are tax-deductible and President’s Fund allocations are confidential.

Fund disbursements are reviewed and authorized annually by committee.

Title: The Devil in the White City

Author: Erik Larson

Recommended by: Maryann Felps

It’s all about: The construction of the

Chicago’s World Fair and a serial

killer. Larson cleverly creates two plot lines,

separated yet connected, using his

extensive research to recreate Chicago

during the 1890s and a serial killer who

exploits the world fair to lure his victims.

I love this book because: It combines

fact, fiction, mystery, and madness.

Target Audience: Anyone who loves a good crime novel with some history

added (or who loves history with some crime added).

Quotes: “ It was so easy to disappear, so easy to deny knowledge, so very

easy in the smoke and din to mask that something dark had taken root. This was

Chicago, on the eve of the greatest fair in history.”

“Make no little plans; they have no magic to stir men's blood.”

Social Studies Department The SCS 7th grade class recently traveled to Washington DC for our annual American history class trip. This year's

trip was exceptional and full of smiles. Our 7th graders and many of their parents experienced a long list of amazing sites of

historical significance including: Arlington National Cemetery (changing of the guard, wreath laying ceremony), 9/11

Memorial, night tours of all the major monuments, Smithsonian Museums of American History, Natural History, and Air &

Space, The White House, Jamestown, Williamsburg, Monticello, St. John's Church ("Give me liberty or give me death"

speech re-enactment), and Mount Vernon. This trip is a rite of passage for many 7th and 8th grade students across the

nation, but our tour guides assure us that no other school pulls off what we are able to pull off each year. Our students see

almost twice as many sites as other schools see in the same amount of time, which might be why all of the adults who went

on the trip are still trying to recover! Each night ended with school staff conducting devotional thoughts with our group,

keeping us grounded in the fact that we are first and foremost, followers of the Lord. Thank you to the amazing kids and

families at SCS, who make traveling with over 100 people not only tolerable, but a blessing!

Youth and Government On November 21, a group of 27 SCS students took part in the YMCA Youth and Government Fort Worth district conference.

The work and time committed by all of the students led to successes for a number of our students. The SCS trial court team

of attorneys Andie Smith and Chyann Langevin won 5th place and advanced to the state conference. Judge Heather

Haratsis won district as the 1st place judge. In Appeals, Elektra Ryffel advanced to state as an Appeals Justice.

These successes are evidence of the great dedication and work put in by the students in Youth and Government.

Congratulations to all of the participants!

Spiritual Life

Names of Authority and Power

During this season we celebrate the birth of Jesus, the King of Kings! The King of Kings has power,

authority, and dominion over all. He rules the nations and ultimately reigns in our lives. In the vision

of John, he shares that all rulers will cast their crowns before His throne, fall down and worship Jesus.

Come celebrate the King of Kings with us!

A BIG THANK YOU!

Thank you to all who have supported our Operation Christmas Child and Live Thankfully drives this

fall. Your generosity is such a blessing. We could not have made the impact both locally and

internationally without your gifts. We were able to pack 450 shoeboxes for Samaritan’s Purse and

we collected over $2,300.00 for Live Thankfully.

Thank you for giving!

Caught In The Act...Of A Servant

Every day, 7th grader Hugh Massey comes to my room to bless me with "Have a nice day." His kindness

makes me feel appreciated. Mrs. Johns

8th graders Harrison Matthews and Ben Cowley assembled over 150 Operation Christmas Child

Boxes by themselves. What great guys! Thanks! Mrs. Carr

Thanks to 8th grader Caleb Culpepper for straightening the chairs and picking up trash in our classroom.

Mrs. Stroup

Thank you to 9th graders Grant Kennedy and Brooke Day. They both stayed late and helped me

organize all the ceramic glazes for our class. Mrs. Bass

10th grader Grayson Henderson helped me carry several reams of paper to the 200 work area without being

asked. Thank you, Grayson! Mrs. Peterson

10th grader Kailen d'Escayrac-Lauture follows each chapel by serving his fellow students. He patiently

waits and holds the door open as the students flood through. His smiles and positive attitude as they leave is a

joy to see. Mr. Abt

10th grader Chaz Sullivan often holds the door open for the students/teachers after chapel. Mr. Knox

Group Hugs from Mrs. Carr

Many thanks to Lindsey Jones, Lindsey Fairchild, Ashtyn Oakley, Claire Roberson, and Rachel Paulsen for their assistance

in setting up for Operation Christmas Child. They worked so hard!
