THE GRINDING PRINCIPLE

PPC’s industrial grinding machines are designed forprecision, control and safe operation. The grinding processis provided by diamond tungsten or resin bonded plateswhich are secured to singular or multiple heads and rotatein a circular motion.

The heads are fully enclosed for safety and a dustextraction port provides ‘dust free’ operation. The moretechnically advanced models allow for the heads to beraised or lowered by hydraulic control. There are numerous plates from which to select thecorrect combination for smoothing, preparing, polishing orcleaning applications.

PPC’s Grinding machines are built for high performanceand can be used for wet and dry applications.

GUIDE TO SELECTING DISCS

‘The selection of the correctaccessory will optimise the life of thediamond disc and provide costeffective solutions for yourdesignated project.’

The materials used in the construction offloors and walls vary considerably. Thegeographical location of the project willprovide an insight into regional materialsused and must always be considered whenselecting diamond accessories to preparesurfaces.

The customer must be confident that boththe correct grade of bond and the degree ofdiamond segment on the accessoryselected, will meet the precise criteria ofthe designated project.

A simple equation is to examine the type ofsurface being treated. A hard compositionsurface will require a soft bond segment anda soft composition surface will require ahard bond segment. In each instance theselection of the correct accessory willoptimise the life of the diamond disc andprovide the most cost effective solution.

In the event that the incorrect grade ofdiamond disc is selected, the disc will simplyglaze over the surface and not create thecorrect cutting actions, or will ‘wear out’extremely quickly. This will often be evidentin the initial stages of the operation and will

prove to be costly and unsuccessful.

GUIDE TO STEEL ABRASIVE(Shot)Steel Abrasive ‘shot’ is the medium used inall enclosed principle shotblasting equipmentto create the designated surface profile.

330 Grade 0.85 – 1.2mm

Provides a very fine profile and can be used to lightlytexture power floated concrete, steel or asphaltsurfaces. Ideal for general cleaning

390 Grade 1.0 – 1.4mm

Is more aggressive than 330 grade and is morecommonly used to clean and texture surfaces prior toapplying coatings and sealants.

460 Grade 1.2 – 1.7mm

Is the most popular grade available. Selected for itscleaning properties for use on concrete, asphalt andtiled surfaces, providing a light-medium profile idealfor applications of self levelling systems and screeds.460 grade cleans and textures coated surfaces; it isideal for preparing bridge decks and roads for surfacedressings and waterproof systems.

550 Grade 1.4 – 2.0mm

Is ideal for similar applications to 460 grade , but isslightly more aggressive and rougher in profile. Checkthe suitability of your machine before using thismaterial.

660 Grade 1.8 – 2.4mm

Is used for very aggressive applications i.e. to exposeaggregate and reveal surface defects and cracks, toremove existing surface treatments and to provide acoarse profile. Ideal for texturing Terrazzo,Granolithic and existing Epoxy finishes (i.e. extremelydense compound finishes). Check the suitability ofyour machine before using this material.

Combinations of abrasive can be selected to providethe desired surface profile on the designatedsurface.

Lease HireTo avoid the financial outlay on an equipmentpurchase that may not be appropriate forfuture contracts, there is the option to leasehire the exact machine for the duration of aproject. You can also choose to addmaintenance and breakdown cover forcomplete piece of mind.

Leasing equipment can be arranged throughapproved Finance Houses to suit budgetconstraints.

If the circumstances change and lease hire nolonger makes financial sense, The PreparationGroup has the flexibility to convert your leaseinto a purchase for which, if required, we canprovide a low cost finance agreement.
