Presentation
A great way to support a
speech, visualize
complicated concepts or
focus attention on asubject.
Badly designed slides with too much text or badgraphics can distract or worse, irritate the
audience.

Quick Tips: When making the slides...
Shoot them with bullets
"Less is more on a slide show
Too much information on a single slide becomes
unreadablePresent your content in the form of four to five
bulleted points per slide;
anything more and you end up creating clutter.
your slide readableadds to the overall impact of your presentation
Let your bullets be visible.

17/36
Quick Tips: When making the slides...
Try to use a font size of 24-28. Don't let each bulleted point be too lengthy.
Limit it to six words in one line -- use short
sentences.
Try to restrict it to six lines in a slide.
Contrast the text with the background.
To highlight certain important information,
present that text in a larger font size.

Few Tips
9/3/2013 18
7/30/2019 Preparation of Thesis.pptx
19/36
1. Compose Slides
Dont copy & paste slides from different sources.
Keep the design very basic and simple. It shall not
distract.
Pick an easy to read font face.
Carefully select font sizes for headers and text.
Leave room for highlights, such as images or take
home messages.
Decorate scarcely but well.

20/36
2. Use Consistency
Consistently use the same font face and sizeson all slides.
Match colors.
You may use your company logo, highlightheaders, create a special frame for
figures/images or the whole slide
dont overload your slides with these elements. Colors
A poor choice of colors can shatter
a presentation.9/3/2013 20
7/30/2019 Preparation of Thesis.pptx
21/36
3. Use Contrast
Black text on a white background will always
be the best but also the most boring choice.
If you want to play with colors, keep it easy on
the eyes
always keep good contrast in mind so that
your readers do not have to strain to guess
what youve typed on your slide.

4. Apply Brilliance
Carefully use color to highlight your message!
Dont weaken the color effect by using too
many colors at an instance.
Make a brilliant choice: match colors for
design and good contrast to highlight your
message.

23/36
5. KISS
Keep It Straight and Simple.
Keywords only.
No sentences!
Never read your slides, talk freely.
Remember that your slides are only there to support, notto replace your talk!
Youll want to tell a story, describe your data or explaincircumstances, and only provide keywords through yourslides.
If you read your slides and if you do it slow and badly, the audience will get bored and stop listening.

7/30/2019 Preparation of Thesis.pptx
24/36
6. Take Home Message
Always express a Take Home Message.
Its your message, a summary of your data orstory.
Make it a highlight that stands out. Images
Images are key elements of every presentation.
Your audience has ears and eyes theyll want to
see what youre talking about,a good visual cue will help them to understand
your message much better

25/36
7. Add Images
Have more images in your slides
than text.
But do not use images to
decorate!
Images can reinforce or
complement your message.
Images can reinforce or complement your
message.
Use images to visualize and explain.
A picture can say more than a thousand words.9/3/2013 25

7. Add Images
Animations & Media
In animations, there is a fine line between acomic or professional impression.
However, animations can be rather powerfultools to visualize & explain complicatedmatters.
A good animation can not only improveunderstanding, but can also make themessage stick with your audience.

Useful Tips: When Presenting...
Your PPT is not a Teleprompter
-Don't commit the cardinal sin of reading out your slides word forword.
-PPT slides are to be used as a visual communication aid and not asa teleprompter for the speaker.
Get out of the way
-Make sure you are not blocking the audience's view.-Use a laser beam to identify the points on the screen, never yourarm.
Go slow-Don't rush through your slide show.
-Give about 30 seconds to two minutes for the images on your slideshow to make an impact.
-This will also give you time to answer questions and make yourpoint.

29/36
Useful Tips: When Presenting... Do dummy runs
-Don't make the first presentation to your audience.-You should do the entire presentation by yourself (in front of amirror, if possible).
-See how it flows and how long it takes.
It's not just technology
-PowerPoint may be a great piece of technology, but youreffectiveness as a public speaker will eventually dictate the impact.
-Dress smartly.
-Entertain the audience with some amount of planned humor.
-Share anecdotes and stories.
-Don't talk in a monotone. Pack in enthusiasm and energy into yourvoice.
-And, if you do goof up, never apologize -- take a breath, smile andmove on.

Dont Be Silly
Use animations and media sparingly.
Use animations to draw attention
Use animations to clarify a model oremphasize an effect.
Target & Content
Your target i.e. your audience, defines thecontent of your presentation.

31/36
Keep Your Audience In Mind What do they know?
What do you need to tell them?
What do they expect?
What will be interesting to them?
What can you teach them?
What will keep them focused?
Answer these questions and boil your slides down to thevery essentials.
In your talk, describe the essentials colorfully and choose
your weapons i.e. text, images and animations wisely . If you lose the attention of your audience, everything will
be lost it wont matter how ingenious your design orhow brilliantly you picked colors and keywords
