Touch of Love Family Fellowship

Pastor Cumberland Community Church

To expose ushers to the awesome responsibility entrusted to them to serve others in Christ behalf.

To educate ushers in the biblical and practical aspects of church ushering.

To enhance the organization, efficiency, dedication, and the competence of the usher’s team.

To equip ushers to perform their duties before, during, and after the service in a spirit of servant leadership.

The usher is there help relieve the visitor’s anxiety and make them welcome and ready for worship.

The usher’s hospitality and pleasant smiles helps to prepare worshipers to experience the love of Christ and the power of gathering and worshiping in his name.

The usher will be prepared to politely answer visitors questions concerning the church, its ministries, and the opportunities available for their involvement in the life of the church.

The ushers Ministry is one of the strategic components within the God appointed, God anointed Ministry of Helps within the church of Jesus Christ.

The ministry must be undergirded by consistent prayer and occasional fasting in order that we may be sensitive and obedient to the leading of the Holy Spirit, obedient to Holy Scripture, and obedient to those in authority over us in the Lord.

As we serve we must be alert to the devices of the devil and his schemes to disrupt and pervert the pure worship that is due to our great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ.

Only as we observe the above injunctions will we as ushers be able to meet the needs of the people as we receive direction from the Lord.

The ushers ministry is ordained and anointed by God. It consist of believers who are endowed with the gifts of helps by the Holy Spirit to serve the church.

1. Assist the Pastors: We assist the pastors/shepherds

and help them accomplish their goals and bring their vision for the church to fulfilment.

See Ushering 101 p.10.

2.  Maintain Order: We maintain order and regulate

movements during the service, prayer ministry lines and communion.

We are the first-line defence against Satan's devices of confusion and distraction that can separate people from God’s Word and disrupt the move of the Holy Spirit.  This position is genuinely unique

because it is a matter of life and death where souls are on the brink of life changing decisions.

3.   Receive Offering: We receive offering in obedience to

God’s Word as recorded in St. Luke 6.38, 2 Corinthians 8.1-6, 2 Corinthians 9:7.

We are committed to cheerfully and hilariously receive from the worshipers that which is given unto the Lord for His Kingdom.

We are fully aware that our attitude in receiving the Lord’s offering plays a vital role that may affect the worshipers’ willingness to honour the Lord in this grace of giving to his cause.

4.   Meeting and Greeting: We are God’s public relations personnel.

We represent the church to every new visitor.

We are the extension of God’s heart and hands.  It is our responsibility to make the visitors feel welcomed and important.

We must greet visitors with the same love and warmth as the pastors themselves would have done.

We know that the first impression is lasting.  We are aware that we can make a world of difference in visitor’s or a worshiper’s life!

Acts 6.1-6, 1 Cor. 16.28.  The ushers’ ministry is built upon the

sound teaching of the Word of God. The ushers ministry is an arm of the

deacon’s ministry which is a deed ministry.

The believers who qualify for service in this ministry are those who are endowed by the Holy Spirit with the gift of helps.

You must be committed to the cause of Christ.

You must be willing to count the cost and pay the price.

You must love God’s precious people and be willing to serve in the power of the Holy Spirit.

You must sense the call of God on your life to represent him in righteousness and truth.

You must be full of faith and the Holy Spirit (Acts 6.1-6).

You must be a trustworthy believer.

You must have a personal relationship with Christ. Develop the habit of a daily devotional time with God.

You must get involved in a group where you can pray and study the Bible with others.

You must be able to share Jesus Christ with others and lead those who are seeking him to personal commitment in him. The Great Commission is a vital aspect of an usher’s ministry obligation.

you must be convinced that people come to church with various needs. People want to be in a church where they feel significant and spiritually secure. People desire personal relationships in a healthy environment. It is the usher's job to find out who they are and how they can serve them.

You must be faithfully committed to the biblical mandate of stewardship. Tithing is a matter of faith, spiritual priority, and joyful surrender to the principle of stewardship.

You have to be intentional -- ushering doesn't just happen on Sunday. Meeting people’s needs doesn't happen by accident, it demands dependence on the Holy Spirit and determination to make a difference in people’s life for the glory of christ.

How should the usher greet visitors?
