over 2000 candidates from the valley
Over 15 corporates across India head for Srinagar for a massive recruitment drive
Corporates from banking, finance, hospitality, education, IT/ITES, security sectors looking for fresh recruits from the Valley
A total of over 2,000 offers are expected to be made over a period of two days Udaan, a special initiative for Jammu & Kashmir, today announced its largest recruitment drive under the scheme that will take place in Srinagar on 18th – 19thNovember, 2014. The drive will see over 15 large corporates heading for the Valley to recruit over 2000 graduates and post-graduates in a wide range of sectors, including banking, finance, hospitality, education, IT/ITES and security.
This is the single largest recruitment drive conducted under Udaan since its inception in November 2011. Some
of India’s largest corporations are participating in this massive recruitment drive. Corporates like Genpact,
IL&FS, CMC, Reliance HR Services, Accenture, Ratnakar Bank and others will be in Srinagar for recruiting fresh
talents during this drive.
Under Udaan, participating corporates hire recruits, providing off-site training and upon successful completion
of the training make job offers. Since inception nearly 10,500 youth of Jammu and Kashmir have been selected
for Udaan.
Commenting on this historic moment, Dilip Chenoy, MD and CEO, NSDC, said, “We are grateful to every single
Udaan partner who will be participating in this massive recruitment drive. The timing of this drive could not have
been better, considering the recent natural disaster the people in the valley had to suffer. Opportunities such as
these help the youth of J&K in securing gainful employment across India. I am also happy that this drive
coincides with Udaan’s third anniversary. I urge more corporates to take part in Udaan and would like to wish
my very best to both the aspiring recruits and the employers.”
The recruitment drive will be preceded by a seminar on 17th November to help corporates understand the talent
pool in the Jammu & Kashmir. The seminar and the recruitment drive will take place at Sher-I Kashmir
International Conference Centre in Srinagar.

An estimated 2,000 selections made by 18 corporates from across India
Srinagar, 19 November, 2014: The two day recruitment drive under Udaan turned out to be a massive success with over 5000 youth from the Valley appearing for selection. 18 corporates representing a wide range of sectors like IT, ITES, Consulting, Banking and Security Services conducted nearly 5,500 interviews over two days in Srinagar.
Initial estimates suggest that over 2,000 training offers were made from this recruitment drive. Some of India’s largest corporations participated in this massive recruitment drive including Genpact, IL&FS, CMC, Reliance HR Services, Accenture, Safe Express, Ratnakar Bank and others.
Post selection, the recruits will be trained by the respective corporates over three to six months after which job offers will be made for placements across the country.
Commenting on the successful completion of the Udaan Recruitment Drive, Mr. Atul Bhatnagar, COO, National Skill Development Corporation, said, "We, at NSDC, always have high expectations regarding the participation of J&K youth in Udaan. This time we have been overwhelmed by the unbelievable turnout of candidates at SKICC, Srinagar over the last two days. We would like to thank 18 corporates, our Udaan partners, who participated in this recruitment drive. Each one of them had something good to say about the quality and enthusiasm shown by the candidates desirous of skill development leading to employment. Some of the Udaan partners' desks were manned by their employees who had previously been recruited through the Udaan programme. We salute the spirit of youth in J&K and hope that many more will join in the forthcoming recruitment drives in other districts of the state".
The recruitment drive that took place on 18th and 19th November was preceded by a conference on 17th November, where all the stakeholders within Udaan ecosystem met and discussed the challenges and way forward to make the programme a big success.
Since inception nearly 10,500 youth of Jammu and Kashmir have been selected under Udaan.

1 Govt plans to extend 'Udaan' scheme to small towns in J-K(see original article)
Captured on: 16 11:28:01 Nov 2014
The Centre is planning to extend "Udaan", a special scheme launched to help youths from Jammu and Kashmir to get jobs in top companies, to smaller towns in the state as not too many from the two main cities are willing to take up offers due to low entry-level pay.
As part of a new policy, to be launched after the forthcoming Assembly elections, companies will be encouraged to go beyond Jammu and Srinagar cities and even remote locations in the state to organise employment camps and hire locals.
The fresh attempt will be initiated after a study has shown that youths from Jammu and Srinagar are averse to taking up corporate jobs in metros as the initial remuneration is just Rs 20,000-Rs 25,000 per month.
"Youths living in cities like Srinagar and Jammu are not keen to leave the state for Rs 20,000 or Rs 25,000 as there are avenues where they can earn that much by staying at home. But the situation may not be the same for someone living in Anantnag or Baramulla or a small village," a Home Ministry official said.
Based on the recommendations of the Expert Group constituted by the Prime Minister under the Chairmanship of C Rangarajan, the Centre launched the scheme Special Industry Initiative for Jammu and Kashmir "Udaan" in 2013 in the nature of partnership between the corporates and Ministry of Home Affairs.
The scheme is being implemented by National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC). The programme aims at providing the skill and enhancing the employability of 40,000 unemployed youths of the state who are graduates.
According to the scheme, the identified companies will screen and select students from the state. The duration, place and nature of training will be decided by the company after considering the profile of the candidates and their skill gap.
After completion of the training, the company will take necessary measures for placement of the trainees in association with NSDC.

More than 54 companies have already committed to train nearly 68,738 graduates and post-graduates in Jammu and Kashmir over the next four-five years and later offer them jobs as well if they fit the bill.
The cost of the training, boarding and lodging, is borne by the central government. If a candidate is selected for a job after completing training, the government reimburses the training cost to the company.
Companies which have tied up with the Centre to train youths in Jammu and Kashmir over the next few years also include BhartiInfratel Limited, TENVIC, a division of Anil Kumble Sports Promotion; Fidelis Corporate Solutions; MTC Mount Talent Consulting; and Manpower Group, the world leader in innovative work solutions.
Yes Bank, Religare and public sector units including NTPC, BSNL, ONGC, HAL and BHEL are among other companies that have committed to train the youths for corporate jobs in metros.

Based on the recommendations of the Expert Group constituted by the Prime Minister under the Chairmanship of C Rangarajan, the Centre launched the scheme Special Industry Initiative for Jammu and Kashmir "Udaan" in 2013 in the nature of partnership between the corporates and
Ministry of Home Affairs.

Massive employment drive for youth starts in Kashmir(see original article)

Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir), November 18: A three- day recruitment drive was launched on Tuesday, by a special initiative called Udaan or 'flight' under the public-private partnership, National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) India wherein corporate firms held workshops to provide employment to youth as the region was recovering from the worst floods in a century.
'Udaan' has been working for three years but had halted its efforts after floods struck the region in September. More than 200,000 people were rescued during the floods in September, but it will take immense human effort and government aid to bring the valley back on track.
"After the floods, people here have been going through a lot of difficulties. The 'Udaan Scheme' is working in the state for since three years now and corporates from across India come here and select their candidates, train them and finally employ them. We were unable to do anything in Jammu and Kashmir in the past two months due to floods, so we thought of renewing our efforts to give opportunities to the youth here as the situation is better now," said Bint Abass, the coordinator of the NSDC .
Abass added that 18 corporate firms were participating in the drive to train and recruit youth in a wide range of sectors like banking, information technology, finance, hospitality and education.
Around 5,000 candidates had been trained already and 2,000 were placed since Udaan started in 2011. Abass said she was hopeful that 2,000 more candidates would be placed this year.
While day one began with seminars and interactions between corporate and candidates, day two and three will be devoted for interviews and selections.
An employee, AquibZahoor, who got a job from the Udaanscheme said it was a good platform.
"I was looking for a job for one year. I filled forms for government jobs but there was no scope anywhere. Udaan was a good platform for me and I got the wings," said Zahoor.
Companies that are participating in the workshops include some of the largest corporations like Accenture, Genpact, Reliance HR Services and Ratnakar Bank.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to office in May with a mandate to create jobs and kick start Asia's third largest economy after a long period of low growth. Expectations are mounting that the government will take steps between now and the budget in February to stimulate investment.
The government has already taken some steps to make doing business easier and reduce red tape and subsidies. However, PM Modi has not moved ahead as fast on privatizations or welfare and tax reform as some of his supporter had hoped.

Srinagar, Nov 17:
Post floods which devastated Kashmir and left economic sectors struggling, there is a window of opportunity for qualified jobless youth to participate in a mega recruitment drive taking place from November 18 to November 20 at SKICC, Srinagar.
The drive started with a workshop on Monday in which representatives from corporates had a round table discussion with the representatives from government of India, J&K Government, National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) besides students from across Valley.
Around 10000 jobless graduates and post graduates are expected to turn up for this 3-day recruitment drive in which 20 big corporate houses including Ratanakar Bank Limited, Accenture, IL&FS, Apollo Technical Education, Genpact, Ligare, CMC, Prospecta, Rooman Technologies, Indian Institute of Skill Developments, Gumbi, Prolific, Pinkerton, Raxa will hire around 2000 candidates under centrally sponsored scheme Udaan.
Under the Special Industry Initiative of the Prime Minister, the National Skills Development Corporation (NSDC) and Ministry of Home Affairs have been mandated to work with the corporate sector in bringing about a positive change in the employment and skills space of Jammu and Kashmir.
The Special Industry Initiative, known as "Udaan", targets the youth of J&K, specifically graduates and postgraduates, who are seeking global and local opportunities.
As per the official figures, over 2,40,000 educated youth are unemployed in J&K who are registered with state's Department of Employment. The figures are much higher as the registration with the Employment department is a voluntary process.
The September floods had further dampened the spirit of many unemployed youth who are unlikely to find any job in Kashmir by next three to fourth months.
The fresh selection process will start from Tuesday in which each candidate within the age group of 10 years to 40 years can sit in two interviews from any of the 20 companies he finds suitable.
After the selection, the youth will be given three months to six months training from the companies. During the training, the candidates will get a monthly stipend of Rs 2500 besides food, accommodation and transportation.
Upon the successful completion of the training, the candidates will be suitably placed by the companies.
Director of Indian Institute of Skill Development (IISD) AnshukTalwar has participated in this program to hire jobless Diploma or Degree holders in Civil, Mechanical, electrical engineering as part of this Udaan scheme.
IISD has visited Srinagar four times and has trained around 450 people from J&K.
"We have been able to places 70 per cent of the candidates in different companies after the completion of their training," said Talwar.
Many companies in Kashmir have sacked their staff after floods left their business units dysfunctional. The jobless youth are expected participate in the recruitment drive in large numbers as compared to past such occasions.
To attract more youth, the NSDC has asked most of the colleges in Valley to inform students about the recruitment drive besides making wide publicity in the local media.
"We have informed all the college heads to send their pass out students for the recruitment drive. We are expecting to have around 10000 to participate in two days," said Bint Abbas who is the Project Manager with Udaan.
Udaan scheme started its recruitment drive in J&K since November 2012.
So far, 5000 youth have been provided training under Udaan scheme out of which 2000 have already been placed in different companies across India.
"Many of the youth have risen to higher levels and are getting good salaries," said Bint Abbs.
The officials from government department urged the NSDC to start the recruitment process in other districts of the state also so that every educated youth gets opportunity to sit in the interview.
One of the officials from Kupwara said around 2500 unemployed youth are registered with District
Employment CounselingCenter who are receiving Voluntary Service Allowances.
"It was better if companies visited rural areas also for recruitment drive. Those who are applying for VSAs will want to get absorbed by the companies," said the official.
