FFA is a dynamic youth organizat ion within agricultural education that changes l ives and prepares students for premier leadership, personal growth and career success. FFA provides students with the opportunity to participate in a wide range of agricultural education activit ies leading to over 300 career opportunities in the food, f iber, environmental and natural science, bio-renewable systems, and animal science. FFA is a co-curricular organization where students have the opportunity to participate at the district, regional and national level.
Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA)www.texashosa.orgHOSA is a co-curricular organization that provides students with the opportunity to compete at the regional, state and national levels in the health science related field. Students are exposed to medical seminars given by local medical personnel, take tours of local medical treatment centers and are given the opportunities to tour local as well as other campuses of higher learning. 1. Students take an interest survey assessment online during their CTE courses. in both 8th and 10th grade to gain an insight on the student’s career preference and interest. 2. Students will be presented with a video representing CTE available courses. The CTE video can be seen online through the department website at www.mcallenisd.org.3. Students participate in a Pre-Registration Workshop where they plan their CTE pathway. Students sign up for CTE elective courses with CTE counselor. Note: Some courses may have limited spaces, in which case a counselor will interview the student during the application process for the desired CTE course. If the student was not accepted due to availability, a student may be placed on a waiting list.

1. CTE applications are available in the counselors’ office as well as on the CTE website.2. Students need to submit application by deadline (TBA)3. Applications will be reviewed by the teacher for the course.4. Students will be granted interviews based on application.5. After interviews, students and alternates are selected. All other students will be placed on a waiting list.6. Students are then notified with a letter of acceptance.
