They will look at different entry routes, progression opportunities and training. The different processes of recruitment and selection are examined. They will reflect on their own skills, attributes, experience, qualifications and achievements, acknowledging development and training needed to meet specific career aspirations. This unit has links with Unit 2 The business of travel and tourism. Preparing for employment in the travel and tourism industry Learning outcomes On completion of this unit learners should: 6.1 know about career opportunities in the travel and tourism industry 6.2 know the stages of recruitment and selection in travel and tourism 6.3 be able to apply for employment in the travel and tourism industry 6.4 understand the factors that contribute to an effective workplace. Suggested activities The At-a-glance activity grid shows how the activities in the Assessment and Delivery Resource (ADR) relate to the content of the unit. The activities include introductory and plenary activities and a variety of case studies, research tasks, discussions and presentations using written, verbal and presentation skills. The activities may help learners prepare for assessment and the grid indicates which assessment criteria are relevant for each activity. Copies of activity sheets can be given to learners. How this unit will be assessed This unit is assessed internally. To reach Pass level, the evidence must show that the learner is able to: P1 describe career opportunities for four sectors of the travel and tourism industry and produce a description of two chosen jobs P2 produce a personal skills audit in preparation for employment P3 describe the stages of the recruitment and selection process P4 demonstrate suitability for employment during different stages of the job selection process P5 describe the factors that contribute to an effective workplace in travel and tourism organisations.
