We, the students of the 1st F , scuola media, proposed to bring out and embellish a corner of our classroom by building a small naturalistic corner. Our idea was to create a micro-habitat with some plants and flowers and a small aquarium.

Our teacher explained us that in other schools of Europe students look after dogs, cats and other animals and have gardening labs, but for us it’s unusual to keep and feed animals at school so that was a simple but very involving idea!

• Everybody gave his/her contribution with something useful to build our green corner. We gathered paper, boards, colours, wood, a box, plants and different freshwater fish.

• First we painted in blue with clouds the wall of our micro-habitat…

• ...then we carried out a gardening activity to pot flowers and plants…

• …in the end, we put the aquarium.

In turn, every week we look after our fish and plants.

Now the classroom is cosier and the presence of the fish is stimulating a number of questions about them and their life. We asked lots of questions to our teachers and we made research work, too.

Thanks to this Comenius activity we talked about environment and the possibility to make our school and our town greener and more enjoyable!
