PRESBYTERIAN WOMENLECTURE SERIES
The PW Lecture Series honors Miss Laura Pettway, Julia Taylor White, and the many other women who have demonstrated faithful service in this congregation. First funded with a bequest of more than $20,000 from Miss Laura Pettway and later increased with an anonymous gift of $20,000 in honor of Julia Taylor White, the lectures are supported with the income earned on the corpus, which is now invested in New Covenant funds (the corpus is 531.668 shares). Additional gifts in honor of or in memory of our faithful Presbyterian Women are always welcome. As of June 30, 2012, the total value of our account in New Covenant Funds was $51,310.89. The 2013 Series will be begin on Sunday, September 22 and continue on Monday. This year’s speaker is Dr. Brian K. Blount, President Union Presbyterian Seminary. Dr. Blount is is president and professor of New Testament at Union Presbyterian Seminary, Richmond, VA, and Charlotte, NC. He holds degrees from the College of William and Mary, Princeton Theological Seminary, and earned his PhD from Emory University. He is the author of numerous articles and preaches and directs adult education classes in local congregations. He is married, and he and his wife, Sharon, have two children, Joshua and Kaylin.

EXPLANATION OF DUTY CALENDARPresbyterian Women Circles meet on the second Tuesday of each month, September through May.Coordinating Team (CT) Meetings begin immediately following 11am service. Day circles meet at 10:30 am unless otherwise specified. • General Gatherings and lunch (*) are held at the church. • A luncheon is served October and December. • the Hostess Circle is responsible for : 1 - Table decorations 2 - Collecting money for lunch. • If you are a Hostess Circle for the month that is only Coffee Fellowship, you are responsible for the “snacks”. • The Hostess Circle may also be called upon by the Special Activities Committee to help with special events. • In November, February, and April, we meet in homes.
The Tuesday Night Circle meets the 2nd Tuesday of the month, September - April at 6:00 pm in homes. Dates and Hostesses on
page 24.
The Lydia Circle meets the Thursday evening following the 2nd Tuesday of the month, September - April at 6:00 pm at Cherokee
Country Club.
The Esther Circle meets the 2nd Tuesday of the month September - April at 6:00 pm at Bistro at the Bijou.
All circles meet at the church for dinner the 2nd Tuesday in May.

SOCIAL SERVICE PROJECTS
During the year each Circle completes one of the following projects:
• Place a rose in the sanctuary on the Sunday following the birth of a baby within the congregation and present a prayer book to the parents during Session meeting prior to the baptism – Esther Circle• Prepare “care packages” for our college students and our members who are in the military – Tuesday Night Circle• Assist with the Christmas Party for Jesus’ Friends Class – Circle #2 will coordinate• Work with the Presbyterian Student Center at UT, Knoxville – Lydia Circle• February visit with all PW shut-ins, taking a Valentine remembrance - Circle #2• Coordinate evening meal for Family Promise families - Circle #1• Family Crisis Center - Esther Circle
Each Circle has been budgeted $50 to help with its social service project. Jesus’ Friends Christmas party will re-ceive $75.
SPECIAL OFFERINGSThank Offering (November)This offering recognizes God’s blessings to us. Elizabeth Clokey of Springfield began it in Springfield, Ohio, in 1888. The Thank Offering is used for health ministries and mission projects.
Birthday Offering (May)The birthday of each PW organization has been celebrated since 1922. Traditionally Presbyterian women have given one penny for each year of their life. The offering is given to PW designated mission projects.
Least CoinIn the Circle of Prayer and the Fellowship of the Least Coin, Christian women of nearly seventy countries share on an equal basis in an act of prayer for each other and the peoples of the world. Each month we set aside the least coin of our country as a visible sign of this covenant fellowship. We encourage all to share in this circle offering. In April, this money is turned in each year at the Annual Gathering of the Presbyterian Women of the Presbytery of East Tennessee.

Mission Haven 235 Inman DriveDecatur, GA 30030 Mission Haven is a furlough home for Presbyterian missionaries. Located adjacent to Columbia Seminary, it provides short-term lodging for missionaries who are studying at the seminary or other schools in the area or who are in transition after retirement or the end of their term. It offers a clothes closet of good donated clothing to the missionaries and to students at local Presbyterian seminaries.
