Preschool at Home Experiences
Week 3, activity 1
Let’s look at shapes There are lots of shapes around your house, today we are
looking at four different shapes: Circles, triangle, square and
rectangle. On four different pieces of paper (or one large
piece of paper) get an adult or sibling to draw each one of
the shapes, then with something like Lego, gems, pebbles or
buttons lets follow the lines to make the shapes.

Week 3, activity 2
Monster Feet If you have two empty tissues boxes, let’s make some monster
feet! Cut out the plastic in the top opening of the tissue box (an
adult might need to help do this part.)
1. Paint boxes whatever color you want or paste colored paper
2. Cut out toes from construction paper and glue to the bottom of the box.

Week 3, activity 3
Yoga Time to make shapes with our bodies through Yoga.
Yoga is great for our body and our minds. Follow the guided video on 7
different Yoga poses or shapes
Make sure you are in comfortable clothes, you have enough room and if
you have one, grab your exercise mat.

Counting Songs Play the clip and see if you can follow the actions while counting
the objects before they move. Children will need to listen to the
song and point to the objects before they change. Learning outcomes Children engage with a range of texts and gain meaning from these
texts. Children express ideas and make meaning using a range of
media. Children incorporate elements of numeracy in their play.
Children enjoy singing chants, songs and rhymes.
Key Concepts Singing chants and rhymes is a fun way for children to learn
about numbers and counting in a fun and engaging way. It
enhances concentration, co-ordination and listening skills.

Follow up:
Find a variety of objects around your
house to count. For example:
“How many chairs at the kitchen

Week 3, activity 5
Fun and Fizzy Science This is a fizzy, fun and easy science experiment that uses bi carb soda,
white vinegar and food colouring. Bi carb is a base and Vinegar is an acid -
what happens when the two come together? Hint: they neutralise each
other which create bubbles. Follow the links to see it for yourself. There
are two links; the first one is a simple experiment which only requires
three ingredients, the second link also encourages fine motor skills (check
if you have everything you need for this) Learning outcomes 4.2 Children develop a range of skills and processes such as problem
solving, inquiry, experimentation, hypothesising, researching and
investigating.

You will need cups, food colouring, bi carb, white vinegar, and a tray to catch
any mess.

Week 3, activity 6
The Fish Race Game This game can be played with up to four players or on your own. You can
use a chalk board, white board or cardboard to get started:
Cut out four fish (or use dots), then stick them on your board with sticky
tape in a row, Draw 12 circles along the board and a finish line at the end.
Roll a dice or cut out numbers from 1-6 take turns rolling the dice. Move
your fish along the dots to match the number on your dice, The first one to
the end wins.

You can choose to show this online book or read one from your
collection, selecting one in your own home language is great to do.

How much weight can your bridge hold?
Ring Toss
Lego and construction Playing with Lego or construction blocks is a great way to learn
basic measurements, height, length, width and mathematics.
We have included some Lego activities, but allowing children time to build on their own also encourages imagination.

Cooking in the kitchen
Cooking is a great learning tool for children (and a great way to pass the time!) You could make muffins or get them to help you prepare for dinner. You may like to include other siblings into this activity by setting the children at a kitchen table or around a bench and each child can take a turn. If cooking isn't possible try getting children to help layer a sandwich or cut a banana, spread butter on their toast or pour their own milk. Children can learn measurement, quantities and weight even just by watching you cook.

Eye spy (something the colour) This is a fun and great way to spend some time, it can be done
during your daily walk, around the house or even in the backyard.
To make it age appropriate for everyone in the house, you can
change it to be “eye spy with my little eye something [colour]”

and look around for colours in their environment

You can change up the game by
writing down all the names of the
colours on cards, you select a card but
don’t show anyone!! Then you must
find something in your environment
that is that colour.

Week 3, activity 12
Let’s learn about bugs & insects
Bugs come in many shapes, colours and sizes and some have lots of
legs. Use the attached worksheets to learn interesting facts about
bugs, do some drawing activities and counting activities. An adult
or older sibling will need to help read the information. There are
seven to choose from, you can do one or do them all.
Learning outcomes Children engage with a range of texts and gain meaning from these
texts. Children express ideas and make meaning using a range of
media. Children incorporate elements of Numeracy in their play.
Children enjoy singing chants, songs and rhymes.
Key Concepts This activity encourages children to listen and ask questions.

We’re going on a BUG HUNT
Bugs are so much fun to learn about. Watch the attached clip to
find out some very interesting things about bugs. How many legs
do they have? What colour are they? How many are there?
Learning outcomes Children engage with a range of texts and gain meaning from these
texts. Children express ideas and make meaning using a range of
media. Children incorporate elements of numeracy in their play.
Children enjoy singing chants, songs and rhymes.
Key Concepts When children learn new facts it makes them feel more
connected to their world. Children like to relay this
information and it encourages them ask questions.

Week 3, activity 14
Make your own bug
Here are some instructions on how to turn an egg cartoon into an
bug, you can follow the instructions or be creative and make your
own bug, it could be any colour you like.
Learning outcomes 5.4 Children begin to understand how symbols and pattern systems
work.
Instructions Cut one cup from a cardboard egg carton
Use a sharp pencil to poke a hole in the left side and in the right side of
the cup (two holes). We will use these holes to thread the legs
through later (you will need an adult to help).
Paint the cup black or any colour you like, and it let dry
Thread the four pipe cleaners through the holes to make eight legs
(you can use string, ribbon too)
Draw or glue on eyes
1. Resources • cardboard egg carton - you will need
one ‘cup’ from a carton
• scissors
• black paint (or another colour if you want to make a creative spider)
• paint brush
• Four pipe cleaners -- to make the legs
• sharp pencil (optional you can use string, paper, cardboard)
• wiggly eyes (optional you can draw eyes on)
• glue

Music and movement It’s time to get up and dance! What type of dancing bug will
you be?
Learning outcomes 3.2 Children take increasing responsibility for their own
health and physical wellbeing.
Key Concepts Dancing is a great way for children to express themselves, it
encourages co-ordination and concentration.
