PRESCOTT COLLEGE Newsletter Term 4, Week 2, Friday 28 September From the Principal’s Desk... Service to Others Really Matters (Stormco) is a concept which became reality when a chaplain in an Adventist school challenged his students to travel together to a small town in Australia and run beneficial and enjoyable community activities. The students and staff sacrificed their time in order to serve and give unconditionally to others, in the same way that Jesus did. Prescott College runs a service learning camp to Port Augusta every year which is based on the Stormco principle. Miss Krissie Hopkins coordinated a group of interested Year 10 and 11 students, and for the the first time, Year 9 students were also considered upon written application. Stormco week was filled with a Kids Club, free for the local community, held every morning from Monday – Friday. During Kids Club, our College students played games with the children, performed dramatic Bible stories, and helped children create colourful crafts of different jungle animals. During the afternoons, students and teachers went on retirement home visits, offered car washes and did a backyard blitz. Students also ran a free community BBQ at the local park, as a service to the Port Augusta community. The Prescott College Stormco Team would like to thank those who supported financially, verbally and prayerfully, because this trip would not have happened without your help. The Prescott College Fete is another event which provides a service to our local community. On Sunday 30th October, our staff and students will give generously of their time and talents to provide a fun, safe and family orientated event for College families and the Prospect community. The Prescott College Creative Arts (PCCA) team will be performing modern Christian music. Several generous sponsors have donated lucky door prizes to give away. I encourage you to join us this Sunday to support our College students, help to generate a strong sense of community and watch our students find joy in service to others. Drama Script WritingYear 10 Drama students spent the last weeks of Term 3 writing their own scripts and this week, the best four were performed in the Church Hall. It was amazing to see these budding playwrights step into director roles and take ownership of creative decision-making.

Saksham P, Kush P, Yasmin D and Tyson F are to be commended

on both their script-writing and director roles and the whole class

transformed into their characters exceptionally well.

Students were also able to provide constructive

feedback to each other after each

presentation. Mrs Jodie Ronca,

BeyondBlue BashPrescott College’s first ever BeyondBlue Bash went well, and a huge thank you is extended to everyone who contributed on the day; whether it was by wearing mufti, purchasing a food item at lunchtime, or getting a henna tattoo. Together, we were able to raise $460.10 on the day, only $40 shy of our $500 goal. The webpage (https://beyondbluebashschools.everydayhero.com/au/prescottcollege) is still open for anyone who would like to help us reach our goal. Another immense thank you is also in order for all members of the SRC, Mrs Nelson and Mrs Sutton, who helped set-up, pack-up and organise the day. We couldn’t have made the fundraising amount without your help.

We would also like to give a big thank you to ADRA South Australia for sponsoring the cost of the

vegetarian sausages used to fundraise on the day. Sam M and Brittany O,

College Captains

We often hear about the need to learn the three Rs in school. In life however, we need to learn about the three Cs. Choices. Chances. Changes. It is through the choices that we make, that we take chances in life, to bring about the changes that we realise are

best for us. This is not always an easy road, but it is the one that brings the most satisfaction.

Ms Josie Prnich, Deputy Principal

Prescott College UniformIf a student is unable to wear correct uniform, a note of explanation must be given, and clearly signed by the parent/guardian. The note should clearly state which item of uniform is unavailable and when your son or daughter will be in correct uniform again. Students out of uniform must report to the Deputy Principal before school to obtain a uniform pass.Just as uniform is compulsory for many occupations, so it is for school. Students are only allowed 3 uniform exemption passes per term (with or without notes). When a student reaches 3 passes parents will be notified via the diary or an email. When a student reaches 4 passes, parents will be notified and that may result in the student spending time in the Focus Room doing his/her schoolwork.Every effort should be made to ensure that uniform items are available to be worn. If students must come out of uniform, only the item that is not

available should be substituted. Non-uniform items should be as close to the original as

possible, being neat, modest and not drawing attention to the wearer.

Uniform passes must be worn so that they can be seen at all

times. Ms Josie Prnich, Deputy Principal

Stormco TripService to Others Really Matters (Stormco) is a mission of the Seventh-day Adventist church that sends groups of people to serve communities and share God’s love. This is the third year in a row that Prescott College students have given up a week of their holidays to give service to the community of Port Augusta. Stormco week was filled with a Kids Club, free for the local community, held every morning from Monday – Friday. During Kids Club, our College students played games with the children, performed dramatic Bible stories, and helped children create colourful crafts of different jungle animals. During the afternoons, we went on retirement home visits, offered car washes and backyard blitz’, and ran a free community BBQ at the local park as a service to the Port Augusta community! The Prescott College Stormco Team would like to thank those who supported them financially, verbally and prayerfully!Krissie Hopkins, Service Learning Coordinator
