Need for a Noncredit Model
Many adults, especially those dislocated from long-time employment, not ready for college
Many adults who do attempt – are placed in developmental programs and “drop out” than “pass out”
Most adults don’t have two or more years to attend college on a full-time basis to be retrained, especially initially
Provides more flexibility, credit approval is lengthy
A new direction for Office of Continuing Education and Workforce Development – open enrollment programs
State initiative called Ohio Skills Bank – Stackable Certificates
Last but not least, the economic meltdown of 2008

Earning Credit - TEA
Technical Experience Assessment Program (TEA)
Students may be able to earn up to 24 credit hours
for introductory-level technical courses in our
associate degree programs through the TEA
program. The exact amount of credit will depend
upon the student’s major area of study and, of
course, his/her experience.

Earning Credit
Meet with TEA coordinator to discuss specifics:
which courses are available
what type of experiences must be documented to receive credit
cost, timetable, etc.
Examine content for courses and whether experiences or prior learning match the "learning outcomes" for the course(s).
If there is a likely match - may enroll in the Technical Experience Assessment Portfolio Preparation (TEAPP) course.
16
2011 UPCEA Career and Economic Development Forum
TEAPP Course
TEAPP is a noncredit course conducted through the Office of Continuing Education and Workforce Development.
Class meets one night a week for 8 weeks.
The class provides step-by-step guidance and instruction on assembling relevant experience into a logical, standardized format-the Portfolio-for review by faculty in the subject area.
Students may develop one portfolio, or multiple portfolios simultaneously (if pursuing credit in multiple courses).
Students may develop portfolios in the future without having to repeat the TEAPP course!
