Findings

• Elder users rarely use social tools to – Familiarize with new friends– Let others to know more about them – Because…

• Younger user tends to make the most use of social networking tools• The problem they have in common is the distraction and online

identity issue• Other problems: always have to have internet to access those

tools(younger), can only use one tool at a time (elder)• Offline social activity could offers them a more sense of reality and

allows them to express themselves better• They have improved elder’s work efficiency and helped younger user

to get in touch with friends in a more convenient way

Problems

• Have too many email accounts to manage• Distract one from work• Hard to keep privacy from family members• Hard to know new people, since online identity could be in

disguise • Can’t compete to face-to-face communication• Would take too much time to manage those accounts• Cannot always receive immediate reply• Always have to have internet to access those tools• Doesn’t provide with a sense of reality• Poor synchronization of phone and computer• Troublesome sharing process
