Introduction
LED Lighting Industry
• LED Market in India expected to reach Rs. 10,460
crores by the year 2016
– Currently, LED constitutes a mere 15% of the total
lighting market in India
– LED market in India is poised to grow at an annual rate
of more than 30%
• Among all the lighting technologies, LED lighting
is the most emerging segment
• As per estimates, by 2020, LED lighting will
constitute 75% of the total lighting requirement, a
shift from 2% in the year 2008
• The price of LED lighting systems has declined by
around 30% over the last 2-3 years due to
improvement in technology
– This has reduced the payback periods considerably
related to switching over to LED lighting systems
• Unlike traditional bulb, tubes and CFL’s, LED can
provide an unlimited range of products, leaving
scope for continuous innovation and improvement
of the products and unique aesthetics

Advantages of LED
High Efficiency (Low Power Consumption)
©2011 Deloitte & Touche Consulting, India
• In CFLs and Incandescents, reflectors are used to direct the light to the illuminated
surface.
• Most of the light is unused and scattered around in those systems.
• For LED lighting this is not the case, around 80% of light is directed to the illuminated
surface.
Advantages of LED
High Light Output

• LEDs provide a high quality cool white light which ensures that the colors
observed are as they are under sunlight
• The flickering of light in gas discharge and fluorescent bulbs is totally prevented.
Advantages of LED
Superior Light Quality

• Lumen output of high intensity discharge (HID) lamps decrease rapidly after a few
thousands of hours of use.
• Lumen output of most metal halide lamps decrease by 30% after 10.000 hours of
operation
• In LEDs the lumen output decreases by only 7% after 10,000 hours of operation
Advantages of LED
High Lumen Maintenance

• Conventional lighting fixtures cause higher/lower than required illuminated areas.
• LED luminaires designed by Ecolux India provide an even light distribution.

• LED bulbs and diodes have an outstanding operational life time expectation of up to
50,000 hours.
• This is almost 6 years of continuous operation
• Long life span means you can cut maintenance cost as the lamps last up to 10-50
times longer than the standard lamps making them an ideal replacement.

• Sodium Vapour lamps, mercury lamps, fluorescent lamps
and metal halide lamps all contain excess amounts of
mercury, which causes pollution of water and soil.
• Being a green product, LED contains none of the
restricted substances (lead, mercury, cadmium etc.)
according to RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous
Substances).
• Using LED’s will provide
• less energy use
• less polution caused by power plants and
• less carbon dioxide emission to the atmosphere.
• LED prevents emission of 8.7 tons of CO2, at the end of
50.000 hours of usage.
