Term 3 Week 2 Newsletter 23 27th July 2017 It has been quite a great start to the term. Mr McLean has thoroughly enjoyed his visit to Hinton and other local schools. He thanks everyone for the warm welcome he has received. Both Mr McLean and I have undertaken various worthwhile professional experiences during his stay. This week sees the return of Mrs Robinson and again I thank Mr Taylor for his outstanding contributions to the class and the school. Education Week is being celebrated from 31 st July – 4 th August. We have many activities planned including students visiting the Life Education van (1 st & 2 nd August), The Maitland Learning Community Presentation Night at Maitland High School (2 nd Aug from 5.30pm) and our school celebration on Thursday from 10.00am. We will begin our day from 10.00am with open classrooms, followed by a small assembly after which parents and grand-parents can enjoy lunch with their children. Tea and coffee will also be available. We will also celebrate Grandparents Day on Wednesday 23 rd August during Book Week. Details will follow. It is important to return permission notes for school activities on time. Students become upset when they have to miss out on an activity because the school has not received completed permission notes to attend. Students are unable to attend or participate unless parental permission is received. We have had a very smooth implementation of LMBR thanks to the efforts and expertise of Mrs Jordan and Ms Creek. They are still smiling and we have completed our first order! Also a big thankyou to all our parents for being patient during this time and a reminder we are still in the training process for the daily office routine. Caption: Yeay, we’ve done it! Welcome to Rhiannon Peterson. Rhiannon is a student teacher from Newcastle University on her final placement here at Hinton. She will be with Kindergarten for the first 5 weeks of this term and has already made positive relationships with the students and staff.

100 Days of Kindergarten! Monday the 24th July marked the official 100th day of school for Hinton Kindergarten students. To celebrate this special day Kindergarten participated in many fun activities involving the number 100. We counted to 100 by 10’s and 1’s, built towers with 100 cups, made self-portraits of ourselves when we are 100 and wrote about what we will be or what we will be doing when we are 100. Thanks for a fun filled 100 days Kindergarten! Congratulations!

‘When I am 100 I will be a farmer’. ‘When I am 100 I will have

grandchildren’.

‘When I am 100 I will have a fat

belly’.

Hinton - The Kind School In Term 3, we are starting a new whole school focus on developing different character

traits. Each week will have a different focus. This week’s focus for Kindergarten to Year 2

is Respect. They are focusing on treating people, places, and things with kindness. This

week’s focus for Year 3 to Year 6 is Caring. They are learning the importance of feeling

and showing concern for others. At each assembly Mr Welsh will be presenting an award

based on the character trait focus for that week.

On Mondays, I will be working with the Year 3 – 6 students in Social/Emotional Learning

groups. I will facilitate discussions and activities around that week’s focus.
