MAIN LUBE SYSTEMLube Oil TankEngine-Driven Main Lube Pump

Positive displacement pump is installed on the engine’s accessory drive and is powered by turbine engine itself.

Oil Regulator Assembly (pressure, temperature, relief)

Normal lube system pressure is maintained between 35-55 psig. Temperature set bypass the oil cooler at 125oF and through the cooler at

140oF. System relief valve set for 150 psig to protect the system piping from

rupture.

Oil Cooler AssemblyFilters

Filter arrangement is duplex and installed on downstream of the regulator assembly.

System MonitoringDuring normal operation, the system pressure is monitored with an alarm initiated if it falls below 28 psig and a shutdown initiated at approximately 25 psig.A lube system pressure exceeding a typical value of 65 psig will initiate high pressure alarm.Temperature alarm set at 155oF and temperature shutdown set at 165oF.

PRE/POST LUBE SYSTEMPre/Post Lube Pump

The pre/post lube pump is normally a screw type and powered by AC motor. The pump’s function is to provide lubrication to the engine and driven equipment bearing and gearing before the engine is allowed to rotate. Maximum allowable pressure is 25 psig and it generated alarm if the pressure exceed the set point more than 30 s.

Pressure SwitchPre lube minimum pressure set at 8 psig.

Pre/Post System Relief ValveSystem relief valve control the pump’s discharge pressure and set between

10-20 psig.

BACK UP POST LUBE SYSTEMBack Up Post Lube Pump

DC motor drives the back up pump. Back up pump ensure post lube is accomplished even if the pre/post lube pump inoperable. Maximum allowable pressure between 13-25 psig with an alarm generated if the pressure exceeds this setpoint for more than 30 s.

Pressure SwitchPressure switch set for 12 psig increasing and 9 psig decreasing.

Back Up System Relief ValvePump’s discharge is limited to normally 13-25 psig by an external system relief valve.

DRAIN SYSTEMOil returned to the oil tank by a series of gravity assisted drain lines. These drain lines usually have a temperature sensor at each engine and driven equipment drain location to monitor the returning oil temperature.

SEQUENCE OF OPERATIONPump check sequence, first turning on the Back up Postlube Pump. The Back up Pump must achieve a 4 psig within 30 psig.Once the pressure is sensed, the Back up Pump is turned off and Pre/Post Lube Pump is switched on.Pre/Post Lube Pump must achieve minimum 8 psig within 30 s. Pre/Post Lube Pump shut down at starter drop out speed (60-65% NGP) and system pressure as above 25-28 psig.If the lubrication handled by main lube pump and system pressure drop below at preset level, an alarm will sound. If the system pressure continues to drop below the typical shutdown set point of 25 psig, the Pre/Post Lube Pump is turned on and a 5 s delay timer will begin timing. If the pressure still below the set point after time delay, fast stop package shut down will be initiated and Pre/Post Lube Pump will complete its normal postlube duties.
