***Legalization is carried out by collecting consular fees at the Brazilian Embassy or Consulate of the
jurisdiction corresponding to the origin of the documents. Documents are legalized by recognition of
signature or an authentication of the document itself. Consular legalization is a notarial record
provided to verify that a document was actually signed by the person referenced, or issued by a
foreign agency. Then, the documents will need to be translated to Portuguese by a professional
(sworn translator). With this translation, the documents will be valid in Brazilian territory.
Verify the procedures for legalization at the site of the Consulate or Embassy with jurisdiction over
the territory where the document was issued: http://www.portalconsular.mre.gov.br/legalizacao-
dedocumentos/sites-dos-postos/por-ordem-alfabetica
IMPORTANT: At this time, no sworn translation is necessary for the countries of Mercosur
(Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay and Venezuela).

Registration at UAM:
Health Insurance
All international students must present Health Insurance
(Medical Insurance) that is valid for the entire period during which they will
remain as students in Brazil. Temporary insurance for periods of less than a
semester will not be accepted, because it is not possible to guarantee their
renewal. For this reason, the university requires insurance with coverage for
the entire semester, for the student’s safety.
The insurance must cover medical care and admittance to a hospital, paying
the hospitals immediately upon use of the insurance.
Insurance will not be accepted if it works under the “reimbursement” system
(when the student must pay first and then apply for the insurance to provide
reimbursement), because there have been situations where the hospital
refused to care for students because the insurance would not advance the
amount and the student was not in a financial position to make the payment.
It will not be possible to get Health Insurance in Brazil, since
insurance companies do not offer this service once foreigners are already in
Brazil.
