• Compound Words:• It is a new word formed by joining two words, e.g.

cell + phone = cellphone / cell phone• Each joined word should be able to stand by its

own e.g. unacceptable v/s net profit• Most newer compound words are spelt as two

words, e.g. chat room, cross trainers, credit note

• Sentences:• Simple Sentences > easy to read and understand

because they contain only one clause• Compounds Sentences > formed when two clauses

are joined together with co-ordinating conjunctions• Complex Sentences > made up of two or more

clauses, co-ordinated or subordinated, or joined through the use of punctuations

Chapter 3 – Summary

• Bad grammar makes one look bad and interferes with communication• Good communicators are sensitive to language• Become conscious of your shortcomings and work consciously to rectify those mistakes
