  • 1. MUSIC VIDEO EVALUATION Shake it out

2. The opening shot shows the performance element of one of the bandmembers singing. This incorporates the promotion of the band and allows theaudience to acquaint themselves with the band. The majority of this particularmusic video is performance which is unusual for a music video but betterpromotes the band and makes them more recognisable. This shot is a midclose up which helps focus on the face and emotion of the song. 3. This shot shows the band at a different angle which makes the video seemmore professional. Also by seeing who the band is singing to incorporates the narrative by helping the story tie in and making it more understandable. We can also see the whole band in this shot helping it be another promotional factor within the video. They have also used an over the shoulder shot. 4. This is another mid close up shot. This has been used to focus on eachmember of the band as a promotional factor and focus on who is singing atthe time. It also shows the range of shots used throughout the video 5. This is the first time we see the narrative element n the video. Unlike usual videos, the narrative takes up far less of the video in comparison to the performance element. The main focus of the narrative has already beenintroduced through the band singing to her from the start. They have used an over the shoulder shot in this section so it appears like the audience is just ahidden onlooker rather than just an normal viewer at home. 6. In this shot we can see the whole band at a distance from behind to vary theshots used and make it appear more professional. We can also see all the bandmembers in this shot yet again to promote the band. We can also see a shot of one of the instruments used, the piano, to show ore of the band. 7. Here we see the group over the shoulder of the person they are singing tomaking it appear as though they are singing to us as apposed to the maincharacter in the narrative. 8. Here we see more of the band such as the guitarist and the pianist as well assome of the singers. This was done to incorporate the band more by showing more of them. 9. This is another example of the narrative. It mainly focuses around one womanwhich is usual in music videos as they are usually the damsel in distress whichis blatant in this video. The angle is a low angle with a mid close up. 10. This shot was used so we could see the whole band and the othersemotions. This also includes a performance element into thevideo which is vital for a successful music video. 11. In this shot we can see another shot of the whole band making the videomainly performance based. Its a mid long shot at eye level so the audience canbetter connect with the band and feel like they are in the room watching a liveperformance. 12. This shot is an over shoulder shot mixing the performance element with thenarrative as we can see the person the narrative is based on being sung to bythe band. We also see a close up of the guitarist which is a generic feature of music videos to focus on particular band members. 13. This is the end of the video which also focuses on the narrative. This helpsmake the video less based solely on performance. It also incorporates a story in to the video which is typical in a music video. She is also portrayed as a damsel in distress which is a typical feature in music videos.
