This started the computer careers of the two inventors that helped to change the world of computing forever! The Eckert-Mauchly Computer In 1947, Eckert and Mauchly formed the first computer company, the Eckert-Mauchly Computer Corporation (EMCC); Mauchly acted as the president. They secured the contract with the National Bureau of Standards to build an EDVAC II, which was later named UNIVAC. UNIVAC, the first computer designed for business applications, had many significant technical advantages such as magnetic tape for mass storage.
