VISION

To provide Community Library and Information Services that contribute meaningfully to the improvement of the quality of life of the citizens of Tshwane.

MISSION

Community Libraries and Information Service shall act as an agent for community development and education by providing services to all people in Tshwane in their need for life long learning, cultural expression and recreation.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

• Information Provision• Support to education• Development and maintenance of a reading culture• Development and maintenance of electronic network• Presentation of outreach and development programmes• Development and maintenance of existing facilities• Development of new facilities in underdeveloped areas• Ensure equal distribution of facilities, services and

EVENTS AND PROGRAMMES

Following is a list of main events and programmes of which some of them might change according to needs of communities.• The SA library week celebrated annually. The main

event is being arranged in one of the community libraries, while all community libraries in Tshwane (CoT) celebrate it on a smaller scale.

• Reading awareness programme – this is an annual programme aimed at Primary and High school learners to incalculate the culture of reading.

• Take a Girl Child to workplace – an annual event partnered with Cell C. Es’kia Mphahlele library hosts learners from one of the high school Cell C aims to expose girls to different working environment and allow them to make indivual decisions on career paths.

• ABET Training to youth for skills training (pottery, cooking, entrepreneurship). The programme is done in partnership with SABINET

• Online, and skills may change from time to time. CoT library service is currently discussing the possibility of extending the programme to Mabopane/Winterveldt area.

• Extra Mathematics classes - these classes are focussed on Grades 6 and 7 learners in one high school in Soshanguve and it is a pilot project. Extra classes are being held everyday afternoon, and on Saturdays.

• World Book Day - the event is annually being celebrated in conjunction with the University of Pretoria, showcasing our activities that attract the attention of learners.

• Celebration of International School Library Day is in October.
