Data Limitations

• Geography– Only County and Place level flows are available– AFF only provides workplace flows access.

• Suppression Rules– A maximum of 9 separate residence are are reported, and commuting flows

from all remaining counties are aggregated as “All Other Counties.”– 50,000 or 100,000 population threshold for county’s residence (depending on

the table)– Minimum 50 un-weighted cases per residence – to – worksite flows needed

• EEO tabulations have information on workplace flows.

• Workplace flows are included in tables EEO 1W through EEO 7W

• Table used in this example– Table EEO 1W: Detailed Census Occupation by Sex and Race/Ethnicity for

Worksite Geography Universe: Civilians employed at work 16 years.

Step 1Open American Factfinder2 web page. (http://factfinder2.census.gov/faces/nav/jsf/pages/index.xhtml)

Step 2Select Advanced Search option. Then click on Show me all. This will take you to main Advanced Search window

Step 3Open Topics in left navigation bar by clicking right facing arrow head

Step 4Expand Dataset by clicking on the + sign. Select EEO Tabulation 2006-2010 (5-year ACS data) by clicking on it.

Step 5Open Geographies in the left navigation bar and select County – 050.

Step 6Select Maryland as state and then select Montgomery County, Maryland and then click Add to your Selection. Close Geographies once all the selections are added.

Step 7Select Table EEO 1W in the table list and then select view. (or, type in EEO 1W in the search within results box and select go).

Step 8To make modifications, click on Modify Table option on the screen. Modifications, like transposing rows/columns and omitting fields, can be performed to attain the desired resultsOnce all the modifications are complete, select option for Download. You can choose a comma-delimited .csv; .xls, or .pdf. American FactFinder2 will build your table and then click Download. Save the file to your computer
