Labor 1– The Nemean Lion

Bring back the skin of the Nemean lion!
The Impossible Task:
Why was the task so impossible?
No weapon could pierce the lion’s hide, making it impossible to kill!
• A Man-killing lion was terrorizing the land of Nemea!
King Eurytheus
King Eurytheus assigned Hercules the impossible task of killing the Nemean Lion as part of his atonement for killing his family. He had to complete the labor and move on to the next labor. Once he completed all of the impossible labors, he would receive forgiveness.

What is Hercules to do?
Once Hercules realized his weapons could not kill the Nemean Lion, Hercules engaged in a deadly battle with the lion using his bare hands. If he failed, he knew that the terrible lion would go on killing the poor people of Nemea!

Hercules battles the Nemean Lion with his bare hands. The lion fought back viciously……..
Using his super-hero strength, Hercules manages to hold on to the lion and strangle it to death with his bare hands.
Hercules was said to have found a way to remove the skin of the lion and later wore it to show his strength and power. The cloak made from the lion’s hide is said to not allow any arrow or weapon to pierce its hide, making Hercules hard to hurt.

What happened Next? Hercules went on to try to complete his
next labor. He had to face The Lernean Hydra.
