About the St. David’s Neal Kocurek ScholarshipsDr. Neal Kocurek, the longtime President and CEO of St. David’s

Foundation, was a visionary civic leader who understood our

community and cared about its future. As part of Dr. Kocurek’s

legacy, this memorial scholarship fund was established to take

his vision into the future by awarding college scholarships to

students interested in pursuing health-related careers from

Travis, Hays, Williamson, Bastrop and Caldwell counties.

Since inception, more than 340 students have received St. David’s

Neal Kocurek Scholarships to study medicine, nursing, physical

therapy, biomedical engineering and other health-related careers

in Texas colleges and universities.

Toast of the Town is the fundraising drive for the St. David’s

Neal Kocurek Scholarship Fund, and 100 percent of your gift is used

for students’ educations. St. David’s Foundation Community Fund

will match two-to-one all Toast of the Town contributions, tripling

the dollars awarded to the scholarship fund. Every dollar raised will

result in three dollars towards a scholarship.

“The difficult journey to achieving my

goal of becoming a medical doctor has

been made easier with the help of the

St. David’s Neal Kocurek Scholarship over

the last eight years. I cannot thank you, the

donors, enough for your financial support.

With your aid, I was less worried about

finances, finished college strong, and I am now about to graduate

from medical school. I hope that one day I will be able to give back

to my community as you have. Thank you!”

Teresia Pham, 2008 scholarship recipient in her fourth year at

Texas Tech University Health Science Center School of Medicine

“I will never forget the day I received a

St. David’s Neal Kocurek Scholarship. I was

amazed to know so many people believed

in me and my dreams and wanted to

help me achieve them. That support, both

financially and through the mentorship

program, has changed my life. I will always

be immensely grateful for this gift and look forward to the day I

can use my career in health care to give others the same support.”

Caitlin Etherton, 2013 scholarship recipient in her third year at

The University of Texas at Austin

St. David’s Foundation Community Fund appreciates the generosity of

the 2016 Toast of the Town Hosts and Sponsors.

We also applaud the 2016 Toast of the Town Committee, led by Chair,

Julie Niedert, and Vice Chair, Tobie Funte Flannery, for their enthusiasm

and motivation in lining up an especially outstanding season of parties

for our 32nd year.

To show our appreciation for our wonderful supporters, we celebrated

at the Toast of the Town preview party, Preludes & Accolades,

highlighting the 2016 parties on February 24th at The University of

Texas System Bauer House. Party guests also heard from featured

speaker, Dr. Raymond Greenberg, The University of Texas System’s

Executive Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs.

About St. David’s Foundation

At St. David’s Foundation, we believe that good health returns great

benefits to our community. Through a unique partnership with

St. David’s HealthCare, we have invested in building a healthier

Central Texas for everyone since 1996. The tangible benefits include:

n 930 grants to support 155 local nonprofit health partners.

n $300 million in community health investments.

n 93,000 smiles through the nation’s largest mobile

dental program.

n 570 scholarships for tomorrow’s health-care workforce.

In 2016, the Foundation will invest more than $75 million to connect

thousands of low-income people to a full range of health services.

Foundation signature programs include the largest scholarship

program in Texas for aspiring health professionals and the largest

mobile dental program in the country. Other focus areas include safety

net clinics, agencies serving older adults, mental health initiatives, and

support for healthy living initiatives.
