LIONS DISTRICT 105se ROAR CAMPAIGN FINAL

The third ROAR2019 competition finals were held on the 5th and 6th of

December, at The Millennium Seed Bank at Wakehurst Place.

The event was even more successful and Lions from around the South

East with colleagues from 7billionideas conducted the proceedings, aided

by the Wakehurst events team.

In this, the third year of the competition, over 50 schools took part and

attended the finals, held over two days. Judging of the entries was carried

out by Lions Chair of Council, Stewart Sherman-Kahn, Lions District

Governor, David Butler, with judges from 7billionideas, our sponsors and

the Wakehurst events team.

Awards were given for the Best Poster describing the entry, Best Model of

the design and Best Display Stand illustrating the idea. These were

followed by the main Awards, which were first, second and third places for

the best and most innovative ideas.

The ingenuity shown by the students and the scope of the designs were

once again, remarkable and the winning idea will be described and

published in a book, which will be available for purchase on Amazon.

Every one of the students that took part received both a Certificate and a

Medal as a memento of their contribution to a very interesting and

inspiring day.

In addition to the prizes awarded, everyone received an entry certificate and a medal

for their achievements. As before, it was a truly inspirational competition and a

credit to the ingenuity and conceptual thinking shown by all who took part.

Lions Clubs from all corners of District 105SE sponsored schools in the competition

in this the third year.

A huge thank you from all who organised the competition to every club who saw the

full potential for extending our services to the education of our young people.

Note from the author:

Having watched two schools getting involved from the original 7 billionIDEAS presentations and then to see the whole school in their year groups creating exciting story boards and moving through posters jiggles to the final displays was inspiring. The enthusiasm not only of the children but the teaching staff was fantastic. Some schools took the Dragons Den approach to select the year group winner and the winners of each group went forward to a final Dragons Den to choose the school winner. Not only does this project create ideas but it gives even the shyest child a chance to shine amongst their peers and feel good about themselves.

I would unreservedly recommend this programme to every club.
