RuthRoushrecentlyvisitedthisexhibitattheTextileMuseumofbeautifuldesignerclothingspanningseveraldecadesandhighlyrecommendsit.
Forfiftyyears,theEbonyFashionFairshapedanewvisionofblackAmericathroughcontemporaryfashion.Thisexhibitionofstunningensemblesbyleadingdesignerstellsthestoryofthefair'screator,EuniceW.Johnson,whoovercameracialprejudicetobringglobalfashiontoAfrican-Americanaudiences.Learnmoreaboutthemuseumandtheexhibitatmuseum.gwu.edu/.OnSundaysonstreetparkingisfreedowntown,youcantakemetrotoFoggyBottom,ortakeacarloadoffriendsandpaytoparkatagarage.Thereareseveralgarageswithinafewblocksofthemuseum.

CalltoOrder:PresidentDianneTippinscalledthemeetingtoorderat12:35pm.Therewere29inattendance.SheannouncedthattheMinutesfromtheApril9,2017meetingwillbefiledasapprovedandcorrected.TreasurersReport:MaryDowneypresentedthepreviouslycirculatedbudget.Therewasnodiscussion.Therewasamotionandasecondtoapprovethebudgetanditpassedunanimously.Shereportedincomeof$659andexpensesof$297.Renewalsofmembershipduesandformsarenowdue.The$30feereflectsthenewQUmembershipfee.President’sReport:DiannereportedthatArticle6,Section3bylawswerechangedin2014(atwaschangedtoby).In2015whenbylawswerechangedagain,Dianneusedthe2009bylawsasherbasisforcorrectionratherthan2014bylaws.InSeptemberMVQUwillrequestthebylawsbechangedtoreflectthe2014wording.BigQUiscurrentlyrequiringustochangeourbylawstoeliminatetheseniorstatusandrecognizethatduesaresetbybigQU.
TherewasaclipboardpassedaroundtoRSVPfortheJuneluncheonandtoreportonwhatattendeeswillbebringingforthepotluck.Hatsandfingerfoodsarerequestedattheluncheon.DianneannouncedthatbigQUdonatedanAugustaColeworkshopattheQUshowtoeachofthechapters.MVQUwillpayforthewinner’sadmissiontotheshow.Sheaskedthatinterestedmembersputtheirnamesinforadrawingtobeheldattheendofthebusinessmeeting.APfaffsewingmachinewasdonatedbyShirleyFaulknerandDiannecalledforsilentbidstopurchaseit.Winnerswillbeannouncedattheendofthemeeting.BirthdayRaffle:BarbaraZyigelannouncedthattodaywouldbethefinalbirthdayraffle.Overthecourseoftheyeartherewere27donationsand$261earned.Boutique:Itwasannouncedthatboutiqueitemswouldbeforsaleafterthemeeting.JoyceKeatingwillbehandlingtheboutiqueandsheisstillacceptingdonations.Announcements:TheMay23programwillfeatureDebbyKratovil.Veronicathankedthepeoplewhobroughtrefreshments.RosemaryO’BrianwonthedrawingfortheAugustaColeclass.SallyBarberwasthewinnerofthesilentauctionforthePfaffsewingmachine.ThereweremanyShowandTells.Themeetingadjournedat1:11pm.MinutespreparedbyNancyBarkume,MVQUSecretary
