MANDELA WASHINGTON FELLOWSHIP Investing in the Next Generation of African Leaders
President Obama launched the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) in 2010 to support young African leaders as they spur growth and prosperity, strengthen democratic gover-nance, and enhance peace and security across Africa.
The Mandela Washington Fellowship is the flagship program of YALI and brings leaders to the United States each year for leadership training, academic coursework, and mentoring.
The Precinct hosts a six-week program focused on civic leadership for 25 of the total 500 Fellows each summer; all Fellows and host institutions are invited to collaborate on the
Presidential Precinct Network.
Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI)
YALI REGIONAL LEADERSHIP CENTERS The YALI Mandela Washington Fellowship far surpassed expectations: 50,000 bright young people applied for the opportunity to become a Fellow in the inaugural year – only one percent of applicants were accepted. The Establishment of the YALI Regional Leadership Centers (the “Centers”) fulfills the continued commitment to reach unmet potential.
Four Regional Centers will improve the availability, relevance and quality of leadership train-
ing programs for tens of thousands of leaders in the public, private and civil society sectors
across sub-Saharan Africa by providing continuous leadership training and networking op-
portunities through three core components: Leadership Training; Incubating Organizations and Entrepreneurship; and Networking.
The Presidential Precinct joined an alliance with the University of South Africa to run the South African Center and will serve as a U.S. based partner to provide quality expertise in governance and leadership training and entrepreneurship support to 4,000 promising
young leaders across Southern Africa.
INTERNATIONAL VISITOR LEADERSHIP PROGRAM (IVLP)The Presidential Precinct partners with the U.S. Department of State’s IVLP through Global Ties U.S. in order to bring some of the 5,000 distinguished international visitors come to
the United States through IVLP. World leader from former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher to Mexico’s former President Felipe Calderon, have developed close ties to the U.S. through their experience as IVLP participants. With an impressive IVLP alumni roster of more than 350 current and former heads of state worldwide, organizations such as The Precinct have played a role in shaping U.S. international relations for decades.

MAGNA CARTA 2015: GLOBAL EMPOWERMENT THROUGH RULE OF LAW FORUMOn March 18, 2015 The Presidential Precinct brought together a wide range of stakeholders
from over 20 countries – including leaders from law, business, government, academia and civil society and honored the pivotal importance of the Magna Carta in the rise of democ-
racy, the rule of law, and self-governance. The guest of honor was His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales. Over 1,500 people from 34 countries watched the livestream and many
others interacted through the Presidential Precinct Network and social media.
ANNUAL RULE OF LAW AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT CONFERENCE The annual Rule of Law and Economic Development Conference unites young leaders an-
nually from more than 100 countries with dignitaries and policy experts representing law, business, government, academia, and civil society to discuss the rule of law and its role in
the evolution of democratic institutions and the global economy.
INVESTING IN THE NEXT GENERATION OF GLOBAL LEADERSWith the help of our donors and sponsors, The Presidential Precinct is able to offer extraordinary programs that focus on promoting freedom, democracy, and the rule of law.Our work is based on the premise that where there is no rule of law, there is little room for
leadership, education or economic development – all of which are essential to the elimina-
tion of poverty and improving the prosperity of developing nations.
PARTNERSHIP OPPORTUNITIESPartnership with the Precinct offers organizations a unique opportunity to fulfill two distinct corporate missions with a single gesture. By supporting The Presidential Precinct, an or-
ganization can continue in its effort to create positive change throughout the world, while benefiting from new bonds created with a rising generation of young leaders from the de-
veloping world.

PARTNERSHIP BENEFITS
Corporate Brand Marketing:
Throughout each of our high level educational programs, both at the
physical venues and online, the corporate sponsor is credited with
promotion of the event, thus gaining credibility and trust through asso-
ciation with the fundamental values being promoted – liberty, the rule of law, civil society, and democracy. The Presidential Precinct has
been featured in over 150 stories including NPR, BBC, CBS News, Voice of America and several other media sources.Corporate Social Responsibility:
There are very few ways that a corporation can better demonstrate to its
stakeholders its commitment to the finest human values than through training young leaders to build successful democracies.
Executive Engagement:
Subject to the primacy of academic integrity, the Precinct encourages
the participation of corporate leaders as panelists, lecturers, and facil-
itators in the engagement with young visiting leaders. We find that les-
sons learned from experienced business leaders speaking anecdotally of their own work in the field is amongst the most impressive and influ-
ential curricula that we can offer. Business Development Opportunities:
Prior corporate sponsors of Precinct events have gained valuable oper-
ational advantages from the development of an active network of trust-
ed young leaders in developing nations. Not only do the ongoing virtu-
al relationships on the Presidential Precinct Network offer a corporate sponsor familiar sources of information and referral in dozens of remote markets; but these relationships can be leveraged to recruit new em-
ployees with deep local knowledge.
“When the coup in Burkina Faso resulted in construction
of a gold mine being halted, I was able to use the Pres-
idential Precinct Network to quickly gain crucial under-
standing about local conditions, politics and cultures, as
well as mission-critical introductions that played an important role in helping us to resolve
the crisis. Thanks to my participation in the Precinct’s YALI Program, I could tap into the powerful network of talented people on the ground, with whom I had developed a rela-
tionship of trust. Presidential Precinct is a unique asset for doing business in Africa.” - Francois Baird, Africa Chairman, Edelman
“I have been teaching for over 20 years and I must say that
the two days I spent at the Precinct represented my most
enjoyable and dynamic classes ever thanks to their enthusiasm,
insight, questioning and vision.”
