PRESIDENTS CORNER June 2014 Hello Goldhounds, Thank you for all your hard work over the weekend at Bear River.....quietly you went about making sure everyone had a great weekend. While everyone was looking for gold, you went about camp preparing for their return...I can't be everywhere to thank everyone but let it be known you are appreciated, and be confident that you will be rewarded someday. Not everything is measured in penny weight or grams, there is not a better group of people to be found anywhere, in any club. Bear River has given up some more gold to the Goldhounds, the ones who worked the hardest found the most gold as usually is the case. We are all hoping for a wet winter, so next year will be even better. Just when you think you've figured it out, Mother Nature changes everything, and moves the gold around, making it easier to be found, hopefully. Movie night in the woods worked out great. Frozen, the animated movie, was shown on Friday night for the kids, I think the mosquitos scared them off. Saturday we showed Paint Your Wagon which was a great choice. Thanks Greg, everyone appeared to have a good time. The movie included great songs about gold mining and just being outdoors. We have a projector now for club meetings and presentations that will allow us to show some gold mining video's. I received a GoPro camera for Christmas so I will be making video's on gold mining and showing them at the meetings. I'm hoping to have a speaker at the next meeting who will help us dream about lots of gold while we sleep. She is a professional speaker for Sutter Health on meditation and sleep therapy. I've heard her and you don't want to miss it. See you at the next meeting. Going for the gold, Mike Hello Goldhounds, So, there is another totally awesome Goldhound Annual Bear River Outing under our belts. I know my family had a lot of fun! I hope you all did too. Our dedicated members started showing up early Thursday morning to get a good place in line for the best campsite, sorry Ed. So everyone in line got moved in and some even started mining that afternoon. Others filtered in all afternoon Thursday through Saturday. My wife Anne, our grandson Owen and I started panning Friday morning on the lower end of the campground where the creek comes into the river with no luck so by the afternoon we had been invited by Dave and Sharon DiMuzio to join their little gaggle of gold miners about 100 yards upstream. So we trekked off with mining gear, Owen and my faithful dredging partner ‘Jesse the dog’ all loaded in the paddle boat for the big trip upstream. They got to ride, I got to pull, it was great. Anne walked along the river taking pictures of the goofy sight. Other miners were spread out much farther up the river and all were having fun. Saturday night was our big potluck dinner, which was delicious! Thanks to all who brought dishes. I tried as many as I could but started with a dose of Don Coppin’s famous Tri -tip. Thanks to Wendy Sorensen for heading up the cleanup effort. And for an after dinner movie, we watched Clint Eastwood sing about talking to the tree’s in ‘Paint your Wagon’. It was pretty special, Thanks Mr. President. Sunday morning was a potluck breakfast, I made ‘pigs-n-blanketsw/cheese, yummy. Then we all went mining again, yea! Hello Goldhounds, So, there is another totally awesome Goldhound Annual Bear River Outing under our belts. Most folks had to leave Sunday afternoon so they were filling in holes by mid Sunday morning. The final cleanup effort Monday morning was participated in by Art Speegle, Ed and Cyndy Burchard, John and Joyce Petri, Jim and Jos Baggott, Paul and Cindy Pecarek, and Chris Miller even drove back over bright and early from his cozy bed at home to help me with a final sweep and

fill in some of the worst holes that had been left by previous miners which we might have been blamed for. I am so proud of all the Goldhounds who demonstrated what it means to be a Mother Lode Goldhound. A Sincere Thank you, Robert Jordan Outings Director

May Goldhound Meeting Update: The May meeting included speakers from Seniors First of Auburn. She offered a lot of great information on

things that many often don't think about to help with the a seniors' health care and other services that are in the our area. Our own Susan Korn was also one of our speakers for the evening talking about how women were thought of, lived, helped, and raising children in the "old days". Thank You, Susan!
