TECH NOTES: Should I Report Cybercrime? Cybercrime can be particularly difficult to investigate and prosecute because it often crosses legal jurisdictions and even international boundaries. And, many offenders disband one online criminal operation—only to start up a new activity with a new approach—before an incident even comes to the attention of the authorities. The good news is that federal, state, and local law enforcement authorities are becoming more sophisticated about and devoting more resources to responding to cybercrime. Furthermore, over the past several years, many new anti-cybercrime statutes have been passed empowering federal, state, and local authorities to investigate and prosecute these crimes. But, law enforcement needs your help to stop the nefarious behavior of cyber criminals and bring them to justice.Who to contact:• Local law enforcement. Even if you have been the target of a multijurisdictional cybercrime, your local law enforcement agency (either police department or sheriff ’s office) has an obligation to assist you, take a formal report, and make referrals to other agencies, when appropriate. Report your situation as soon as you find out about it. Some local agencies have detectives or departments that focus specifically on cybercrime.• IC3.  The Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) will thoroughly review and evaluate your complaint and refer it to the appropriate federal, state, local, or international law enforcement or regulatory agency that has jurisdiction over the matter. IC3 is a partnership between the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the National White Collar Crime Center (funded, in part, by the Department of Justice’s Bureau of Justice Assistance). Complaints may be filed online at ic3.gov/default.aspx.• Federal Trade Commission (FTC). The FTC does not resolve individual consumer complaints, but does operate the Consumer Sentinel, a secure online database that is used by civil and criminal law enforcement authorities worldwide to detect patterns of wrong-doing, leading to investigations and prosecutions. File your complaint at  ftccomplaintassistant.gov. Victims of identity crime may receive additional help through the FTC hotline at 1-877-IDTHEFT (1-877-438-4388); the FTC website at identitytheft.gov provides resources for victims, businesses and law enforcement.• Your Local Victim Service Provider. Most communities in the United States have victim advocates ready to help following a crime. They can provide information, emotional support and advocacy as needed. Find local victims service providers here: http://ovc.ncjrs.gov/findvictimservices/search.asp

Advisor's Corner with Nathan RodgersAre you changing jobs? Do you have a 401(k) from a former employer? Have you wondered what to do with it?

There are many misconceptions about what must be done with a 401(k) when someone leaves a company. Some people think they have to cash out their 401(k) upon leaving a job. Others think they must “roll it over” into a new 401(k). Still others believe that they must leave the 401(k) where it is. None of these are true, and none are false. These aren’t “musts”, they are options. The big question is: which option is the right option for YOU? If you have enough money in your current 401(k) to meet the minimum requirement, you could leave your money where it is. Should you? Well, it depends. If you feel the plan has good investment choices and the annual fees are reasonable, leaving your money there could be a good option for you. If your new employer offers a 401(k), you could choose to “roll” your money into that plan, but then you will be limited to the new plan’s investment options. So should you? Once again, it depends. You’ll want to look into the structure of the new plan, the fees and the investment options. If managing where your account is held and how it is invested is important to you, moving your money into an IRA rollover account could give you more flexibility. Additionally, you could open a brokerage account or purchase a CD, provided the account is titled as your IRA Rollover Account. The temptation to get a lump sum of money can be too great for some, especially if they have just lost their job or feel that they are in some sort of financial bind. They may choose to cash out their 401(k) upon leaving a job. But what are they giving up? Well, 10% for starters. If they are younger than 59 ½ years old when they cash out their 401(k) they will incur a 10% penalty, unless a special exception applies. But here’s what really hurts: they are giving up part of their retirement fund or (in many cases) starting over from zero. Fighting temptation now may, potentially, lead to big rewards later. For example, let’s say a 35-year-old leaves a job and rolls over $15,000 from a 401(k) into an IRA earning an average of 7% annually, letting the money mature over 30 years. By the time they reach retirement that money could, potentially, have grown to over $100,000 1. If you’re unsure which choice is best for you, or if you’d like to learn more about your options, I would be happy to speak with you. Please call me at:

The MEMBER LOYALTY REWARD for 2016 totaled approximately $219,000.00. The year 2016 was once again a very challenging one in the financial marketplace. However, thanks to our loyal members making the choice to use the credit union for their financial needs, 2016 was a good year for the credit union. All our products and services were priced at market levels. Every member got a fair deal. U$X FCU uses NO loss leaders, NO exorbitant pricing and NO bait-and-switch tactics. Please refer to the notice included with your year-end statement for more details on how the U$X FCU MEMBER LOYALTY REWARDS were calculated. In keeping with our mission to provide members with advantages in every aspect of their financial life and the confidence of financial security, sharing the financial success of YOUR credit union with YOU, our members, is fundamental in the credit union philosophy. To continue our tremendous success, we encourage you to enhance your involvement and use of the products and services offered to you by U$X FCU. The more you use our services for all your financial needs, the better the chances are that U$X FCU will repeat this reward in the future. Also, encourage your family and co-workers to join U$X FCU and use us for all their financial needs as well. Thank you again for your loyalty as a member! Utilizing U$X FCU is a truly rewarding experience.

Sincerely, The Board of Directors
