1.1 Profile
Fisia Italimpianti SpA, with its broad experience, is a worldwide leader in the design and execution of water treatment and desalination plants, with a production of about 4,000,000 m3/day of potable water and operating worldwide, with special focus in MENA countries and Latin America. The Company is one of the most competitive engineering, procurement and construction management contractors in the world, offering high-quality water and wastewater production and treatment, desalination plant construction, and environmental sustainability services.
It has an operational structure of consolidated experience, highly qualified staff and up-to-date technical tools that can provide a full range of services including process, design, construction, treatment of water resources and erection and O&M of desalination plants, meeting the specific needs of Public Bodies and Authorities as well as of Private Firms.
1.2 Over 90 Years of Experience
Fisia Italimpianti SpA gathers over than 90 years of experience in the design and execution of desalination and water treatment plants. The Company was founded in 2000 by the merger of Fisia with ITALIMPIANTI - Environmental division and Desalination. This merger is the culmination of a long history of business growth, started in 1926 when Castagnetti Water Treatment - a FIAT Group Company operative in engineering and construction of water treatment plants, solid waste & industrial waste gases treatment plants - was founded.
Today Fisia Italimpianti is part of Salini Impregilo Group, the top global infrastructure Company in the water sector (ENR). This provides FISIA Italimpianti with added technical expertise and greater access to the resources necessary to expand its presence worldwide.

2.1 Water Desalination
Seawater desalination is one of the most promising ways to solve the global crisis related to water shortage by providing and maintaining clean, safe water for drinking, daily public use, industrial processes, sanitary uses, etc.
The experience gained through the years allows Fisia Italimpianti to provide reliable and well proven products for all the available desalination technolo-gies, meeting any possible need of different clients in different countries all over the world.
The Company’s products range goes from thermal to membrane (RO) desali-nation technologies, supported by consolidated experience as turnkey contrac-tor for lump sum projects as well as EPC contractor for Independent Water and Power Project (IWPP).
2.1.1 Thermal Desalination plants
The Company has a broad experience in the main well proven thermal processes available for seawater desalination: Multi Stage Flash (MSF) and Multiple Effect Distillation (MED).
MSF is particularly suitable for large installations, where each unit can have a capacity between 60,000 and 80,000 m3/day, while MED is more suitable for small-medium installations, where each unit can have a capacity between 20,000 and 35,000 m3/day.

2.1.2 Reverse Osmosis (RO) Desalination plants
RO technology market shows strong growth and represents the main alternative to thermal plants, especially where couple electric stations are not installed. Fisia Italiampianti supplied and constructed several RO desalination plants for seawater and brackish water since 1988 in many countries.
It intends to grow in this market at worldwide level, with leverage on the vast experience gained in the desalination market, the strong engineering and construction capabilities and the continuous effort put in innovation through Research and Development Department.
The Company aims to contribute to the sustainable growth of the RO technology, improving know how and competences. To this end it constructed a pilot plant in Genoa Harbour for the optimization of the process and to control the fouling phenomena.
2.2 Water Treatment
The Company supplies Municipal and Industrial Waste Water Treatment Plants, Potable Water Treatment Plants and Remineralization Plants. An internal design team composed by highly qualified engineers, experienced in all fields of the water treatment, allows Fisia Italimpianti to offer engineered solutions which enable to:
— optimize capital and operating costs— maximize the reliability and the life of the plant— reduce the environmental impact
The main unit operations that can be applied are:— Chemical treatment— Physical treatment— Biological treatment— Membrane treatment
2.3 Sustainable Waste Management
Since 1980 Fisia Italimpianti operates also in the design and realization of waste treatment plants and waste to energy plants (WtE). This activity completes, with the core business of water treatment both for potable water production and for urban and industrial wastewater, the environmental sector of the Company.
2.4 Water Desalination through Renewable Sources
Fisia Italimpianti R&D department is also involved in projects and feasibility studies for desalination applied to:
— Energy from Solar (thermal collectors and photovoltaic cells)— Energy from Geothermal sources — Energy from wind
