INTRODUCTION

Looking for and finding the right bottle. For yourself or for others.Among the hundreds or thousands of bottles on the shelves.Unless you’re an expert, it’s like a tightrope act, riddled with guesses and an uncertain result.

MyOeno,

is a wine scanner connected to a mobile app.It recommends users bottles according to their tastes…based on objective measurements!

MyOeno scientifically deciphers the structure of red wines and then cross-references this data with the tastes of each user. That way, the app is like a personal enologist, perfectly informed of the palate and nose of its users, in order to make better recommendations during their next tastings!

Because of its wine scanner, MyOeno is the only solution of its type that draws support from real scientific measurements of the specificities of each wine.It is a FrenchTech innovation 100% made in France, and a part of Moet Hennessy’s “innovation simulator” MH Lab 78.

Application available on the AppStore and Google Play as of October 2017. Scanner for sale on boulanger.com and laredoute.fr as of November 2017

SUMMARY OF MYŒNO

MYŒNO is the first and only app that allows tolook for and find a wine

that is perfectly suited to your tastes

For the first time, the scanner lets individuals access four parameters that define a wine’s profile:

strength, tannins, acidity and ageing. Each of these characteristics is measured and is recorded as data.

Once the wine has been scanned, the user tells the application whether they like the wine by rating it from 1 to 5 stars.

As more wines are scanned, MYŒNO recommends

wines that are increasingly suited to the tastes of its users.

A WINE “PROFILE” ACCORDING TO MYŒNO

Users can complete it with their own observations, by rating it out of a number of stars, by clicking on the tags of the aroma palette (mineral, woody, buttery, etc.) and by writing their own tasting notes.

AN APP WITH A NOSE FOR FINDING THE RIGHT BOTTLE

By combining objective measurements with its user’s subjective tastes, MyOeno can recommend truly personalized wines based on user preferences.

Assurance that you will find a bottle you likeEven without knowledge, tasters curious to discover new things can find wines that suit their palate, and if they want, they can let themselves be guided by MyOeno in their exploration of the vast world of wine, all without having to use wine vocabulary, which can be intimidating to novices at times.

The more users scan bottles and say whether they like them or not, the more accurate MyOeno will be in its recommendations for the next tasting.

A truly personalized guide to wine aisles or restaurants!Faced with the hundreds of bottles in grocery store aisles, MyOeno has an unsurpassed nose for sniffing out wines that users will like.Users can take a picture of the label and ask MyOeno to check whether the wine is likely to match their tastes!

Just like reading a wine menu in a restaurant, users can search for a wine by keyword and learn its acidity, intensity and tannins.

MyOeno gives you recommendations on when to taste your bottles

… depending on your own tastes! For every wine scanned, the app indicates the ideal cellar aging time. Based on objective indicators, this information is cross-referenced with the tastes of each user. As a result, users get advice that is completely adapted to their preferences.

A PERSONALIZED TEACHER

In addition to looking for wines similar to those already enjoyed, MyOeno offers a full set of functionalities, in particular for users looking to develop a greater understanding.

(continuing to) Learn about wine while understanding your tastesAs they scan more wines, attentive users (or even complete novices) can become familiar with the essential notions of intensity, tannins, acidity and aging. From scan to scan, they will make the connection between the wines that they like and the objective profile established by the scan (tannin content, acidity, alcohol level, etc.).

Whenever they so desire, they will be more easily directed to the appellations and varietals that are most likely to meet their expectations.

This approach allows to initiate them into the pleasure of wine while learning to trust their sensations, using them as the absolute criteria for choices and understanding, without having to use theory or technical vocabulary.

(also) Looking for different winesBecause the pleasure of wine is also the pleasure of discovery, upon request, the application can also suggest wines with respectively “opposite” profiles, which are somewhat or very different from the wines listed as favorites by users.

For more experienced connoisseurs, this function [wine search by style] allows, for example, to discover wines with a surprising personality taking into account their appellation or varietal(s).

A record of all wines tastedIn terms of tasting (and learning about wine), memory is a very important tool: it’s your personal library of aromas, sensations, flavors… In which it’s useful to dig around to refine your understanding as you taste more.In the user profile, MyOeno stores all wines tasted (scanned), accompanied by the user’s tasting notes, etc.

THE TASTE FOR SHARING

Just like the pleasure of wine, MyOeno is even better when shared.

To better communicate around wineOnce users start to understand which objective criteria

are related to their tastes (wines with very high tannins,

for example), it will be much easier for them to turn to

a wine merchant to ask for useful advice! The same

goes for communicating with the people around you

regarding tastes.

A community appThe app lets you share the profiles of the wines that

you liked (or didn’t like) on social media. This is a good

way to find out what bottles / styles of wine to offer to

your friends or make them taste so that they enjoy

them, and vice versa is a clever way of letting people

know what you might want in the near future!

The more wines users scan, the more MyOeno can

refine the wine recommendations it makes to them.

Scanning a wine is also a way to make other tasters

discover it!

7

To try out soon!Currently available as version 1, the MyOeno app will be enhanced over the following months.

Specifically, the two co-founders are already preparing…> the new food and wine pairing functionality,> the possibility of inventorying the wines in your cellar,> the possibility of receiving an alert when your bottles reach their peak,> indications on the ideal serving temperature,> or even the average sale prices observed.

A PRO COMPONENT?

Objective measurements aren’t new to professionals, who use them in the cellar in particular. Even so, MyOeno can be useful for all wine (re)sellers, whether winemakers, wine merchants, large-scale buyers or online buyers…

In addition to being an ideal wine accessory to recommend to their customers as the next gift, wine merchants might find this communication tool beneficial for refining their understanding of their customers’ expectations.

Plus, all professionals who are looking to sell wine would benefit from scanning it so that it becomes known, increasing the chances that it will be recommended to customers that like wines with a structure similar to theirs.

On online sales sites in particular, MyOeno scans represent the potential for clarification around the non-negligible offering.

In the beginning, I was both curious and skeptical about this innovation, but as I scanned more wines, I saw that the measurements were consistent and that it has real potential. So, I participated in defining the 3 major criteria (acidity, tannins and intensity) that constitute the three essential pillars of the balance of a wine.Later, I worked on providing the human dimension of tasting. In other words, the scientific approach was combined with calibration corresponding to tasting notes. That’s how in the end, the machine is aware of the sensation in the mouth. That’s why it’s very reliable and relevant. In general, in its final version, I agree with the machine’s measurements, even though I don’t understand how it works at all! What I find interesting is that the application takes objective measurements, but above all combines them with the palates of users, who can do their own sensory analysis. The app is a support, a compliment. For example, I find it very useful as an addition to the tasting courses that I give. It’s easy to access, fun to use, and uses simple language. As a result, it lets users enjoy themselves with ease and develop confidence in their own sensations to dare to talk about wine.

AN INNOVATION 100% MADE IN FRANCE

[MyOeno at Moët Hennesy Lab]

MyOeno Scan is presented at LVMH’s Champs-Elysées Showroom as a promising innovation and the product of a start-up which is a part of Moët Hennessy’s “innovation stimulator” MH Lab 78.The cofounders are looking to create a version of MyOeno for spirits as a complement to its current use for wine.

"

An innovation 100% made in France, certified FrenchTech & a part of the Moët Hennesy Lab

The scientific principlesWhen learning to taste, you quickly learn that the color of a wine offers relevant information on its style in the mouth. Numerous independent scientific studies1 have established a strong correlation between spectrometric analysis of wine and the fundamental enological features (intensity, tannins and acidity) perceived when tasting.

MyOeno’s technological innovationMyOeno’s algorithm was created based on this wealth of literature and was compared blindly to the sensory analyses of informed professionals and connoisseurs. There already exist sophisticated analysis tools (mass spectrometers, Oeno Resolution 1/2006) intended for wine-making professionals. These highly-precise laboratory tools can’t be transported, are costly and most often require the breakdown of the sample. In addition, their sensitivity is not adapted to communicating the sensations felt by connoisseurs during tasting.Based on this observation, MyOeno developed the “MyOeno Scan” tool, which is specifically adapted to differentiating between different styles of wines based on reliable colorimetric evidence. All stages of design and manufacture are carried out in the region of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.

An applauded innovation Since it was first presented, MyOeno has been noticed and welcomed. Even though the app has only been available on the AppStore and Google Play since October 2017, it has already received a number of prizes:- Award winner at the Concours Lépine 2017 (connected objects category)- Awarded by the Revue du Mérite agricole (Foire de Paris 2017)

1 passion

& 2 co-fondateursThe main common ground between Bastien and Fabien is love for wine.It was while strolling the corridors of wine exhibitions that Bastien and Fabien ran into the difficulty of tasting a large number of wines while trying to compare them in order to buy what they liked, all while trying to systematically spit to try to stay clear! Then, after many tastings and more or less successful attempts to describe and memorize wines, the frustration of the search for “the/their” truth overcame MyOeno’s founders to the point of creating a real need.“After 2 years of research and design, we have now found the most effective and adapted technique for daily use by everybody.”Their scientific careers largely influenced their approach when searching for an objective and quantified solution. Nonetheless, they didn’t lose sight of the pleasure of wine, which is also communicated through the subjective feelings of each person. That’s why MyOeno dedicates a large space to this aspect, in particular through the Tags function (aroma palette) that each person fills out based on what they feel.
