Chavez (787)729-6777 e-mail: [email protected] PASEO DEL MORRO INAUGURATION AND FREE FEE DAY San Juan, PR. –San Juan National Historic Site will inaugurate the latest phase of the Paseo del Morro. “The Paseo del Morro is a Nationally Designated Trail, designated in 2001, internationally recognized which aim to connect, natural, cultural and historic areas of the communities of Old San Juan, La Perla and Puerta de Tierra.. The inauguration Ceremony will be held on Saturday, October 4 th , 2014 at 10:00 a.m., this latest completion of the trail will allow visitors to experience the spectacular walls of Castillo San Felipe del Morro in a way that was not possible before. “On Saturday visitors can enter the fortification of El Morro from the Paseo del Morro”, announced Superintendent Walter J. Chavez. Entrance fees on this day will be waived in conjunction with the Inauguration’ added Chavez. The National Park Service continues to work building new sections of the Paseo del Morro with the goal of extending the trail from its current location to the Capitolio. “We are moving forward with plans for building an additional section from the existing trail at El Morro, building a section to the Garita Del Diablo, working with the community of La Perla to build a section of the trail through their community and later extending it to La Princesa bastion at Castillo San Cristobal across from Capitolio”, concluded, Superintendent Chavez. We are encouraging visitors to enter the fortifications of El Morro through this new extension of the trail, accessing El Morro’s third level. Once the inauguration is concluded Park Rangers will be providing guided walks through the third level of Castillo San Felipe del Morro. San Juan National Historic Site is comprised of Castillo San Felipe del Morro, Castillo San Cristóbal, Fort San Juan de La Cruz (El Cañuelo), San Juan Gate, and most of the City Wall. The site is open every day from 9:00AM to 6:00PM, except on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day.
