INTRODUCTION
The ScanStation is a real-time incubator and colony counting station designed for the phar-
maceutical, the agro-food, the cosmetic industries and research. It is the world’s fi rst pro-
duct centralizing incubation, detection and colony counting of 100 Petri dishes simultaneously.
In classical Pasteurian microbiology, the Petri dish must be placed in an incubator for 24h and up to
5 days. Then a time-consuming reading operation is performed to count colonies. The operator may
notice the presence of invasive or confl uent colonies mixed with air bubbles, debris, writings... increa-
sing the margin of error on the fi nal result. The ScanStation provides results as soon as the 6 hours
after the beginning of the incubation which is up to 3 times sooner, faster and with inequalled accuracy.
What’s new about ScanStation?
It is to perform incubation and colony counting at the same time, which allows:
- Colony counting at an early stage of the colony development, starting from 6h of incubation
- Unequalled accuracy of the results as colonies are detected before clustering or covering can occur
- Automatic colony counting during incubation for 100 Petri dishes saving time
- Anticipated results provides earlier release of production batches
Multiple award winner:
- Innovation Award Trophy 2017 (Productivity / R.O.I categories) - Forum Labo, Paris, France
- General Public Award Trophy 2017 - Forum Labo, Paris, France
- Design Observer label 2017- Observeur du Design, Paris, France

DESCRIPTION
Not for sale in Japan
Paris, 6th October 2017 - INTERSCIENCE is pleased to announce the launching of ScanStation, real-time incubator and colony counter at MEDICA in Düsseldorf, Germany (November 16-17, 2017).
The ScanStation is a revolution for microbiological analyses : it detects and counts colonies as soon as they appear at the beginnning of the incubation. It is a real-time revolution providing anticipated results for control quality labs in the pharmaceutical, agro-food, cosmetic industries and research. The anticipated results saves time and allows earlier release of production batches.
«With this new technology, microbiologists can actually see, in real-time, the video of bacterial growth on the Petri dishes. This innovation is a mix between classic methods with the Petri dish and the latest innovations in robotic and computing, providing analyses’ results with unequalled accuracy and much sooner.» says Emmanuel JALENQUES – Head of R&D and Co-CEO of INTERSCIENCE.
The major innovation of the ScanStation is the automatic counting of the colonies at an early stage of their development, starting at the beginning of the incubation cycle. Up to 100 Petri dishes are counted every 30 minutes throughout the process, delivering a video recording of the bacterial growth. Final results are known 3 times sooner and faster because up to 100 Petri dishes are processed simultaneously and with unequalled accuracy as colonies are detected before clustering or covering can occur.
The ScanStation has been launched at FORUM LABO 2017 in Paris, France. Winner of the 2017 Innovation Trophy Productivity / R.O.I category, it has also been awarded the General Public Award and was then awarded with the label Observeur du Design and the Trophy of the Innovative Companies by CCI / La Montagne.
PRESS RELEASE
Vainqueursdes Trophéesde l’innovation2017
About us
interscience has been an industry leader in the fi eld of microbiological analysis for the food, agro-
food, pharmaceutical, cosmetic, veterinary, medical, environmental and chemical industries, research
institutes and universities since 1979.
Designer and manufacturer, we provide labs with scientifi c equipment to guarantee safe products for
consumption.
Our French family business is run by co-CEO brothers Emmanuel and Jules Jalenques with 80
colleagues working in 5 locations: Saint Nom and Mourjou in France, Boston (USA), Singapore and
Shanghai (China).
Our products
Our products are used in microbiological analyses labs to test any sample enabling the research of
contaminants and pathogens. They are largely used in the agrofood industry to check if the products
are safe for consumption and in the pharmaceutical, cosmetical, clinical and veterinary industries to test
the effi ciency of creams and medecines among other applications. They also equip labs in hospitals,
universities, research centers, private and public labs worldwide.
Worldwide company
We are proud to export more than 80% of our products in more than 100 countries thanks to a young
sales team speaking many languages (English, Spanish, Chinese, German, Japanese, Italian, etc.) and
a worldwide distribution network. Each year we release new products with a number of international
patents and meet new clients at one of the 20 tradeshows we participate in every year.
THE COMPANY
Our values
Our mission is to offer our partners and customers high quality products and the best service worldwide.
We have built a solid reputation with innovative products that are successful because they are adapted
to the user’s needs. Since the beginning we have had a passion for research and development. We are
proud to provide our teams with the best work environment and have designed ecological surroundings
for our research center and factory.
How it all started
The company was founded in 1979 by François Jalenques, a physicist fond of entrepreneurship. He
started by promoting an innovative plating method for the research of contaminants and pathogens for
the agro-food and pharmaceutical industries. The factory and reseach center was then created in his
ancestor’s village in the south of France to start an industrial revitalization.
His sons, Emmanuel and Jules, started working with him and today run the company together.
