The MCS-CT3 is also suitable for use as a pulse-counting instrument such as a laboratory rate-meter. For photon counting, the MCS-CT3 would typically be used with the AD8 amplifier/discriminator, a photomultiplier and light-tight housing, all of which can be supplied by ET Enterprises. Such an arrangement offers flexibility, ease-of-use and high performance at relatively low cost. Operation and data retrieval can be controlled from the supplied application software or from the users’ own, or customised, code and there are two user outputs for control of associated hardware such as optical shutters. A labView virtual instrument application option is also provided. Apart from signal processing electronics, ET Enterprises Limited (ETEL) manufactures and offers photomultipliers for a wide range of applications including photon counting systems.
