Pressure PipesThe Civil Engineering Teams at EH Smith specialise in the supply ofpressure pipes to suit all applications.

PolyethyleneMedium density Polyethylene (MDPE), now known as PE80 and HighPerformance Polyethylene (HPPE) now PE100, are a cost effectivealternative to traditional iron pipes. They are well established products for the transportation and distribution of potable and wastewater, and have had water industry certification for many years. Theyare now widely used with many advantages:

• Pressure range 6-16 bar• Corrosion free• Colour coded for application• Supplied in sticks or longer coils• Fusion or compression jointing methods• Size range 20mm-630mm• Full range of fittings • Special fabrications available

Ductile IronA long established product for conveying water and sewage underpressure, ductile iron is a highly specified product. It’s extremely versatile in terms of the variety of coatings available for different applications and the ground conditions it can withstand:

• EN545 for potable water• EN598 for waste water and sewage• Flanged connections for above ground• Tyton push-fit for below ground• 80-1400mm size range

Valves & CouplingsValves are required in every pressurised system as a means of isolat-ing a section of mains, for washout, or for preventing backflow wherepumps are in operation. EH Smith can offer any valve required:

• Gate Valves• Non-Return valves• Flap Valves• Penstocks

Couplings and Adaptors provide flexibility in a pipework system anda means of connecting pipes of different materials and different sizes. We can offer a variety of options both off the shelf and made to order:

• Straight couplings 50mm-2000mm• Flange adaptors• Self anchoring • Repair clamps• Wraparound couplings for ‘out of round’ pipes

Developed by Uponor for the transportation of potable waterthrough contaminated land, the PURITON pipe and fittings system combines the barrier properties of aluminium with thebenefits of polyethylene. The result is a system which is contamination resistant, flexible, lightweight and easy to joint.

INSTALLATION COST SAVINGS• Up to 55% faster to install compared with ductile iron• Fewer joints, fewer fittings• No thrust blocks

EASIER HANDLING• 80% lighter than cement lined ductile iron• Flexibility of plastic, contamination resistance of Aluminium• Supplied in 50m Coils as standard

FULL BARRIER SYSTEM• Fully welded substantial barrier• Minimal and simple installation tooling• No additional wrapping necessary, no reliance on rubber

seals

SECURITY AND CONFIDENCE• Fully end load bearing with regard to the fittings resistance

to disengagement• Full barrier fittings system including tapping tees• Barrier in centre of pipe wall for protection from damage

QUALITY• Approved for use in public water supplies• Manufactured under strict quality control procedures

in an ISO9001 factory• WIS4-32-17*• WRAS approval numbers 0306096 and 0306097

WIS4-32-17- Water Industry Specification for polyethylene pressure pipes for pressurised water supply and sewerageduties.

Puriton fittings25mm and 32mm Compression Fittings – Jointing & Protection

The dedicated Puriton barrier fittings range for pipe diameters25mm and 32mm are manufactured from a dezincificationresistant grade of brass to BS EN 12164.

The use of a full metal-bodied fitting with its unique insertdesign provides a complete contamination barrier across thejoint. This dedicated fitting range completely eliminates therequirement for ‘wrapping’ the joints to ensure the protection to the system.

The 25mm and 32mm compression fitting joints are made quickly and easily, without the need for any specialist equipment. They are fully ‘end load bearing’ and are ready for commissioning immediately after installation.

Sealing is provided on both the internal and external surfaces of the pipe by means of water quality approved EPDM ‘O’ ringseals, ensuring leak-tightness and minimising the possibility of contaminants making contact with the drinking water.

The male end connection for the 25mm and 32mm fittings are1” and 1 1/4” to British Standard Pipe Thread, BS21.This applies to all fittings except for the transition coupler: BSPscrew thread = 3/4” and 1”.

All threads are parallel and are male. Where connections toancillary components such as boundary boxes, stop taps etc,are required, then a suitably approved sealant should be used,i.e. PTFE thread tape.
