1. INTRODUCTION

A pressure buildup test was performed on the Red Deer formation at a well in Black Gold

100/00-00-000-00 W0M/00 from October 30, xxxx to November 4, xxxx. The test data was

regularly submitted to Golden Company personnel for review. It was concluded when

sufficient data was collected.

The results of this test are as follows:

2. DISCUSSION

A. Data Validation

Fluid levels and surface pressures were obtained by Nelgar Oilfield Services Ltd. utilizing

Nelgar’s Sure-Shot™ Acoustic Pressure Survey Fluid Level System and tandem N-

Gauge™ Electronic Pressure Recorders. Gas column pressure was determined by the

Cullender and Smith method. The resulting bottomhole pressures have been calculated by

the Nelgar Oilfield Services Ltd. As a quality check, each time an update is performed, the

surface pressure is compared to an N-Gauge™ Electronic Hand-Held Deadweight. If a

difference of greater than 5 kPa is found, further work is performed to verify the accuracy.

All bottomhole pressures have been corrected to MPP.

Production rates and fluid properties were reported by Golden Company Ltd. and accepted

as presented. Cumulative production of 2128 m3 of oil was used to obtain an assumed

effective producing time of 99,000 hours.

This is a deviated wellbore. The stated perforations were 1585.0-1591.0 mKBMD which

equates to 1472.0-1478.0 mKBTVD.

All bottomhole pressures were corrected to absolute values by assuming a barometric

pressure of 93.01 kPa.

B. Pressure Buildup

A log-log diagnostic plot of the buildup data suggests early time wellbore storage as

indicated by a unit slope on the derivative. The late time data indicates possible radial flow

as identified by the near zero slope of the derivative. As such, an analysis of the late time

data utilizing semi-log techniques is possible exercising caution.

Analysis of the late time buildup data was performed utilizing both type curve and semi-log

techniques. The late time data of the Horner plot shows a possible well established semi-log

straight line.

The results of the type curve and semi-log analysis of the late time data yielded the

following results:

Type Curve Semi-log Analysis

Effective Permeability (md) 0.458 0.43

Skin Factor,S +35.1 +33.2

The results find a reasonable match between the type curve and semi-log techniques. This

further confirms that the right model was chosen for the late time data. It is worth

mentioning that the above mentioned skins are prior to taking into account partial

penetration effects. This will be handled in more detail in the Synthesis portion of this

report.

Page 6: PRESSURE TRANSIENT ANALYSIS (PTA) - …€¦ · Cullender and Smith method. The resulting bottomhole pressures have been calculated by the Nelgar Oilfield Services Ltd. As a quality

C. Synthesis

In order to confirm and fine tune the results found in the type curve and semi-log analysis,

a pressure history match of the buildup data was performed. Emphasis was placed on the

late time data of the buildup.

The results of the semi-log analysis were used as a starting point in the pressure history

match. Variables were allowed to float with minimum and maximum values used on each of

the variables to ensure reasonable results.

A reasonable match of the buildup data was found utilizing a partial penetration effects

model with the following variables:

Summary of Simulation Results

CD 9

Ko 0.43 md

Skin Factor (S) After PP Effects +24.1

The positive skin indicates a damaged wellbore. Removal of this damage may increase

productivity.
