Calibration vs Justification ?

CALIBRATIONAt the calibration a measurement device will be tested and thedeviation (accurancy) to a standard (national or international) will bedetermined and documented/controlled.For example the deviation to the lenght standard in Paris (or thenational copies at the PTB, NPL, UKAS etc.).No other manipulation is done as the documentation. Target of thecalibration is a protocol, the so called calibration certificate.After the calibration it is not allowed to modify or justify the measuringdevice, otherwise the certificate become worthless. The calibrationonly can do the institute which has a standard of higher ranking thatmeans a known standard or measurement equipment which is

qualified to record.

Calibration vs Justification ?

JUSTIFICATIONFor justification the displayed value of a measuring device iscorrected, so the measured / indicated value (the so-called actualvalue) is set to the correct value, the so-called nominal value, as wellas possible.The target is to provide a correct value at the display.Anybody who is able to operate with the instrument can adjustify themeasurement device if the device allows it.An adjustment, for example to Zero, is often done before eachmeasurement. About deviations of measurements (set to actual value)says an adjustment, however, nothing. That is the subject ofcalibration.

For maintanance of a device is done often both, adjustment andcalibration. Remember: After each adjustment is a previously donecalibration worthless, a re-calibration is therefore absolutelynecessary.

Hand Made Justification

You can justify the measuring ranges of the following functions bymeans of MAN / AUTO and HOLD keys: AC voltage [V AC]

DC voltage [V DC] Temperature Diode function

Keep keys MAN / AUTO and HOLD depressed while inserting thebatteries.The justification mode is launched and CAL1 is shown at thedisplay.Connect the socket connectors of the measuring instrument with thecalibrator.

Turn the rotary selector switch to V~.

Set the calibrator to a value of 500 mV AC (50 Hz).

Press the HOLD key in order to launch justification.

CAL 1 is blinking in the display until justification is completed aftermax. 10 seconds. A double acoustic signal acknowledges successful

justification. Set the calibrator to a value of 5 V AC (50 Hz).

Press the MAN / AUTO key to switch from operating modeCAL1 to CAL2.


CAL2 is blinking in the display until justification is completed after amaximum of 10 seconds. A double acoustic signal acknowledges

successful justification .

There are three justification steps in the temperature functionbut first: Turn the rotary selector switch to C

Short the inputs by a jumper Read the reference junction temperatur of the multimeter

(ambient temperature)

Set the calibrator in the temperature function (thermocouple type-K)with external reference and set this value.And now start the justification Set the calibrator to a value of 0 C Press the HOLD key in order to launch the first justification step.

CAL 1 is blinking in the display until justification is completed after max.10 seconds. A double acoustic signal acknowledges successful

justification

Next step Set the calibrator to a value of +350 C. Press the MAN / AUTO key to switch from operating mode

CAL1 to CAL2. Press the HOLD key in order to launch the second justification step.

CAL2 is blinking in the display until justification is completed after a

maximum of 10 seconds. A double acoustic signal acknowledgessuccessful justification. Set the calibrator to a value of -40 C. Press the MAN / AUTO key to switch from operating mode

CAL2 to CAL3. Press the HOLD key in order to launch justification.

Be carful by the new hand made justification. You canadjust the instrument to wrong values !!!!!You should calibrate the instrument, to fix and check thecorrect measurements !HELP:To re-establish the factory settings you can rebuild thedefauld values by pressing simultaneously the buttonsMAN/AUTOMAN/AUTO -- HOLDHOLD -- FUNCFUNC Keys and insert then the batteries
