FROM THE DESK OF DENISE STAUFFER

Dear Parents:

The fall season is here! This is one of my favorite times of the year. I enjoy watching all the changes occurring around

us, including the academic and spiritual growth of our Lehman students.

I am writing this letter on October 31 -- the Feast of Saint Wolfgang of Regensburg. Wolfgang was born in Swabia,

Germany, and went to school at the abbey of Reichenau. He later became a teacher. After the death of his friend, the

Archbishop of Trier, Wolfgang chose to become a Benedictine monk and moved to an abbey in Switzerland. He was

ordained a priest in 968 and was appointed the director of the monastery school. Later he traveled to Hungary to

complete mission work there. He was a man who enjoyed rolling up his sleeves and helping others, especially the poor.

In 994, he became ill on a journey back to Germany. He died in Austria and was canonized in 1052. His feast day is

celebrated throughout Europe and he was considered one of the three great German saints of the 10th century.

National Honor Tapping Ceremony

Lehman will hold our National Honor Tapping Ceremonyon November 21 during the school day. In order to be amember of the National Honor Society (NHS), studentsmust meet the criteria set forth by the nationalorganization and must excel in four areas: scholarship, leadership, character, and service. To begin this selectionprocess, we provided sophomore, junior and students, who currently have an unweighted grade point average ofat least 88% with an activity information form to becompleted and turned in by November 8. They receivedthis form on November 1. Students who return the formare then rated by their teachers in the areas of characterand classroom leadership and these scores are tallied. Afaculty council then reviews the information sheets thatwere returned by the students and provides them with aservice rating/score on a scale of 0-4, with four being thehighest. A score of four would represent a studentactively involved in service to school, church, andcommunity. Scores for character, leadership, and serviceare averaged and a 3.25 is needed for selection into theLehman National Honor Society. The official NHSInduction will be held on February 4 at 2 p.m. at theschool. All new NHS members are required to attend theinduction ceremonies.

Lehman Jean Days

Electronic Student PortfolioWe are excited to announce that our incoming freshmen, along with the rest of our students will be working with a Lehman faculty member throughout the 2017-18 school year to produce and add to their Electronic Student Portfolio. This portfolio will follow each student through their four years of high school and will include artifacts to represent their academic and spiritual life growth during their high school career. By the end of their four years at Lehman, students should have a strong portfolio and resume that will not only help them with their college and career plans but should also show how they represent the mission of Lehman Catholic High School – to guide students to discover, embrace and utilize their gifts and talents for the glory of God and service to others.

The first portfolio day for our students is on Tuesday, Nov. 28, 8 - 10 a.m.
