Learning outcomes By the end of the module, the majority of children will be able to: understand and pronounce numbers 1–10 and classroom commands; respond to commands; recognise simple questions and know how to respond; be aware of the spelling of numbers 1–10 and other familiar words; recognise how some sounds are represented in written form; join in with whole-class responses. Some children may not have progressed as far and will be able to: recognise some of the vocabulary for simple items, numbers and greetings; produce responses to simple questions about the core vocabulary and commands with support from a spoken model or visual cue; make links between sounds and spellings with considerable support and repetition; begin to join in with whole-class responses. Some children may have made greater progress and will be able to: understand, pronounce and spell the core vocabulary; use visual cues to produce sentences and words using memorised language; join in with story telling; read words and simple phrases aloud accurately; make links between sounds and spellings; begin to join in with group or pair work.
