An unexpected visitor story opener

He had lived here all his life. The giant mushroom had been home for over 50 years. He was born here, had taken his first steps here, studied at school here and worked the fields here all his adult life. This was the village of Toadstool, and nothing unexpected happened.

Each and every day, his neighbours would carry out their ordinary business in an ordinary way. Each morning, he would sit at his table, tucking into a plate of steaming hot, buttery mushrooms on toast, watching the ordinary world go by in its ordinary way.

His morning seemed no different…until he looked out of his window. The sight that met his bewildered eyes was not ordinary at all. There was an unexpected visitor…

We are now moving on to the second and third section of your story. I hope you enjoyed doing the picture of wherever your rope is coming from. Some have thought of castles and villages on a cloud!

For the second part of the story I want you to describe this unexpected visitor which is the dog in the bucket and look up to see where the dog has come from. What problem has been created?

For the third part of the story your unexpected visitor (the dog in the bucket) has created this dilemma/problem. Does the dog require your help? Is the dog after something? Are there others? Friendly or unfriendly? Is the quest dangerous? This is the action part of your story.

I will lead you through the last two section next week. Try not to jump ahead – as tempting as it may be!

After each section/paragraph you should be up levelling your work to check punctuation, the inclusion of adjectives and adverbs. Is there grammatical and punctuation variety in your work (alliteration, metaphors, , ! two pair openers, adverbial openers etc)? Remember my rule: no more than two pieces of speech! Tell the story.
