1) Take a look at the information presented In Focus, remember to cover up the Let’s Learn part to begin with. We’re focusing again on equivalent fractions, fractions which are the same in value. Some children have find to work which fractions are equivalent to 6/8

they have, however, done different calculations. Two children are correct and two children are incorrect. Can you do work out who?Take a look at the calculations and use pictorial representations (fraction bars) or concrete objects, such as strips of paper to help work it out!

2) Check and look at the Let’s Learn. Did you get the same answers?Did you use the same methods to get to your answers? What are our Steps to Success or what must we remember when working out equivalent fractions?

3) Give the Guided Practice p153 a go! You may want to carry out your workings for these in your Maths books.

4) Move on to carrying out the Worksheet 14 either on the copy you have, some of you may need to carry out the work in your Maths books.LI: I can find equivalent fractions

5) Possible extension and challenge:

Challenge

EXT: Move on to creating your own missing number fraction problem.

This normally takes us around one hour to complete.

AoW: 29.6.20 – Humility towards others

Humility is not a word that we hear very often, could you look up the meaning in a dictionary and find out what it means?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sd0EEHTJFgc

Watch this clip of a tennis player, Grigor Dimitrov.

Why do you think the tennis player was praised by people around the world?

Read Luke 18:9-14 or watch the video clip of the story of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YWK2edNPPXE

Which person do you think was humble in this story?

Why did Jesus praise this person?

Loving God, you know we are not perfect. You see our mistakes and you know our thoughts and you know how great we sometimes want to be. Help us to change our perspective so that we take our eyes off the wonder of

ourselves, looking at the wonder of others instead. Help us to see greatness in everyone, seeing your life within

each person we meet. Amen.

Try to think of ways that you could show humility today.

Spelling and Grammar

Weekly Spelling Test! Ask a grown-up or older sibling to test you on your spellings. They should say the word, put it in a sentence and then repeat it. This can be done in the front of the small exercise book you have, which doubles up as a Rough & SPaG book. Then self-mark it using your purple pen.

Next, cut and stick the following week’s spellings on the next page. You might want to get practising these straight away!

English

Now we’ve finished and come to the end of the book, I would like you to take some time to think about and answer the following questions:

Page 4: primarysite-prod-sorted.s3.amazonaws.com · Web view2020/06/29  · Remember, to send me that weekly e-mail to let me know what you’ve been up to or share any work you’re really

Home Learning Week Commencing 29/06/20

Has your opinion of the characters changed now from the beginning of the book? Has your favourite character changed?

Was the ending of the book a good one? Was it expected? Were you disappointed?

The book has such a good plot that it was made into a film. If you are able to please click on the following link to watch a snippet of it:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TYDA9-pA0hU

I would then like you to think about the answers to the following questions:

Was it like the book? Which parts at the beginning had changed? Were the characters portrayed in the same way? Which did they like more, the film or the book? Why?

In preparation for our own wonderful story writing later this week, today I would like you to create a story map which retells the story.

In the front of your Writing Books:

LI: I create a story map Monday 29 th June 2020

Page 5: primarysite-prod-sorted.s3.amazonaws.com · Web view2020/06/29  · Remember, to send me that weekly e-mail to let me know what you’ve been up to or share any work you’re really

Home Learning Week Commencing 29/06/20

1) Draw pictures and annotate with key vocabulary to describe all the main parts of the story.

2) Use the book for reference to add any speech and dialogue (perhaps in speech bubbles)… You may wish to find and copy down the words which were actually spoken by the characters.

3) Think very carefully about your word choices – use a thesaurus to help.

When you have finished, use this piece of work to help retell story using this! Are you able to recall all the main events from the beginning to the end?

Think about how you present and deliver this, your voice level and expression used. Can you do this in an exciting way?

This normally takes us around 1 to 1 ½ hours to complete.

Guided Reading & Spelling Practice

As we have now finished the reading of The Fantastic Mr Fox, I would like you to complete and write a Book Review. Please use the following documents to help structure your work:

Do some spelling practice, too.

This normally takes us 30 to 45 minutes to complete.

French

When you get the chance, maybe not today but later in the week can you keep practising your French!

https://www.duolingo.com/

Recommended time 20 to 30 minutes.

DT

Today there are two main tasks which need to be completed.

1) Finish your stages – all you need to do is find and attach a screen. This needs to be a translucent piece of paper and tissue paper is suggested but any other equivalent will do.

2) Begin to make your shadow puppets.

Page 6: primarysite-prod-sorted.s3.amazonaws.com · Web view2020/06/29  · Remember, to send me that weekly e-mail to let me know what you’ve been up to or share any work you’re really

Home Learning Week Commencing 29/06/20

Please find instructions and guidance of how to attach your screens in the following document:

Your end product may end up looking something like this:

Then make a start on designing and creating your very own shadow puppets. Over the following weeks I would like you to create your very own productions, I would suggest you do a play you already know, one of the traditional tales or stories.

Please take look at the following clip to be reminded how they work:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/z87jmp3

Today you may just want to start to the time to plan what you will do and make some initial sketches (drawing) as next week we will continue to make these.

This normally takes us around 30 to 45 minutes to complete.

1) Take a look at and carry out the In Focus task, remember to cover up the Let’s Learn part to begin with. Work out how each of the children get as fractions.Who gets the bigger piece? How do you know? This may seem like quite a simple question, but I need you to prove it to me! Either draw and cut out two equal sized circles and physically show how each child gets or can you represent it as a bar model (fraction wall)?

2) Check and look at the Let’s Learn.Did you get the same answer?Did you use the same method to reach your answer?Do your bar models and folded circles look the same?

3) Give the Guided Practice p156 a go! You may want to carry out your workings for these in your Maths books.

AoW: 30.6.20 – Humility with love

Can you think of your own definition of humility? What does it mean to you?

How do you think humility can draw someone closer to God?

Can you think of ways that you can practice humility in your life this week?

http://read.gov/aesop/025.html Read Aesop’s fable or watch it in this video clip

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FOy9y_zB8L4

How can you see pride and humility in this story?

In Ephesians 4:3 it says:

Page 10: primarysite-prod-sorted.s3.amazonaws.com · Web view2020/06/29  · Remember, to send me that weekly e-mail to let me know what you’ve been up to or share any work you’re really

Home Learning Week Commencing 29/06/20

‘Be completely humble and gentle: be patient, bearing with one another in love.’

Can you create a jar of humility? Every day, write on a piece of paper what someone has done to help you. Fold the paper, put it in the jar and repeat this for 7 days. At the end of the 7 days, empty out the jar and read all the examples.

In your prayers you can think about all the people who help you in different ways.

Spelling and Grammar

Today we’re going to have another go at putting our proof-reading skills to the test. You may wish to begin this lesson by taking a look at the following website as a form of revision:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zryxt39

If you are able to access it please watch the two short video clips, read the suggested tips in bullet points and have a go at Activity 1 & Activity 2.

Then in the front of your little yellow SPaG book, please write the title:

Proof-Reading Practice

It’s your turn to be the teacher again! So get those purple pens ready…

1) Read the diary entry through, spot and correct the mistakes:

Dear Diary,

Today woz the best day ever my dad surprised me with trip to the zoo i couldnt believe it. it tuck us half hour to get there in my dads car. When we arrived, the first thing we did was go see the monkeys. they were my favourite animal they swinging all around the enclosure and one did backflip! Me dad and me laughed so much!

If you are unable to print a copy of this off just write the new corrected words / part of the sentence out.

2) Please write some advice or Step to Success that need to be remembered when writing.

3) Make some further edits to improve the way in which this is written. Can you change or add better vocabulary?

Top tip!

Look out for:

spelling mistakes

punctuation mistakes (such as missing full stops and capital letters)

grammatical errors (such as missing words or words not in the past tense)

Once finished, please check your answers:

English

Today our English lesson is going to be quite grammar based before me move on to planning and creating our very own stories! First of all I’d like you to think about what you know about the word tense? What does it mean?

It’s the form a verb takes that lets us know when something happened. Please take a look at the following document to find out more:

Today we are going to be focusing on using the continuous forms of the verb, which are linked to the now and present. Remember that is always formed of 2 verbs and one always ends in -ing:

I am going to the cinema. – Present progressiveI was going to the cinema. – Past progressive

Take a look at the following sentence openers. First I would like you to change all sentences into the past tense. Are you able to work out which three we are able to change so they contain the past progressive verb?

Page 12: primarysite-prod-sorted.s3.amazonaws.com · Web view2020/06/29  · Remember, to send me that weekly e-mail to let me know what you’ve been up to or share any work you’re really

Home Learning Week Commencing 29/06/20

First you will have to identify all the verbs before attempting to change them.

Then choose a sentence opener of your choice and write a very short but descriptive part of a narrative. Write or retell part of the story!

Once you have done this in the front of your Writing Books:

LI: I can add description and write part of a narrative Tuesday 30 th June 2020

The young and spritely foxes were noisily bickering about who was going to take the chickens, when all of a sudden they heard an almighty crash ahead. Thud!

“What was that noise?” squeaked the youngest fox, trembling in fear.

“I have no idea, but I’m going to go and investigate!” replied the oldest, as he puffed out his chest, trying to appear bold and unfazed.

He knew he couldn’t appear frightened in front of the others who gazed up at him in awe, so off he crept with his tail between his legs. As he was crawling along the dark and dingy tunnel he was struck by an amazing idea, he had a thought, he had a plan…

Steps to Success Have you… ?

Included powerful verbs Included lots of good adjectives Included punctuated dialogue Written all tenses in the past tense, including the past progressive form

Once you have finished take the time to check which ones of these you have included and check through your work. Make any improvements or edits with your purple pen.

This normally takes us around 1 to 1 ½ hours to complete.

Guided Reading & Spelling Practice

Page 13: primarysite-prod-sorted.s3.amazonaws.com · Web view2020/06/29  · Remember, to send me that weekly e-mail to let me know what you’ve been up to or share any work you’re really

Home Learning Week Commencing 29/06/20

When you are reading today would like you to become part progressive detectives and to keep an eye out for any past progressive forms of verbs within your books! was/were … -ing

How many did you find? Let me know!

Do some spelling practice, too.

This normally takes us 30 to 45 minutes to complete.

Geography

Today we are going to continue with our Local Area Study. We are going to learn more about where we live but in more detail.

Please by looking at a local aerial map:

https://www.google.com/maps/place/Sevenoaks/@51.2739199,0.1504321,7392m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x47d8ad4c5d5bdfc1:0x2c9c51426386fe62!8m2!3d51.27241!4d0.190898

Can you see where you live and can you also find where the school is located?

The UK is split up into lots of different areas called counties and we live in a county called Kent. Now using your maps and atlases, are you able to locate where abouts Kent is on your UK map?

Can you locate Chipstead and also where you live?

Page 14: primarysite-prod-sorted.s3.amazonaws.com · Web view2020/06/29  · Remember, to send me that weekly e-mail to let me know what you’ve been up to or share any work you’re really

Home Learning Week Commencing 29/06/20

Once you have found these two (or maybe just one) places, make sure you plot them on the UK map we worked with last lesson.

You will need a map of Kent for the next part of this lesson, please see below (at the bottom).

Then, in the back of your Writing Books:

LI: I can locate where we live within the UK

Please work through the different challenges, completing as many as you can.

You will need to have access to atlases or maps for this lesson. I would preferably like you to use books, otherwise you may find the following websites useful:

https://kids.britannica.com/kids/browse/atlas

https://www.kent.gov.uk/__data/assets/pdf_file/0012/7104/Kent-district-areas-and-towns-map.pdf

Please use of the following template and outline of the UK on which to complete your work:

If you are unable to print a copy please just draw a rough sketch or list the different districts rather than label!

This should take around 1 hour to complete.

Have you ever had times in your life when you have boasted or bragged, perhaps even put others down to make yourself look good?

Have you ever tried the opposite? Looking at others and being amazed by their wonder and the things that they do?

Jesse Jackson, an American civil rights activist, said:

‘Never look down on anybody unless you are helping them up.’

What do you think that he meant by this?

Is this how you live your life?

In the Bible, in John 13: 4-7, Jesus shows his humility by washing the feet of the disciples.

Can you create a tower of shoes (at home). How tall can you build it?

How can you build others up so that they can remain steady and strong?

It is so easy for your tower to fall down, just like it is so easy to knock others down with careless words or actions. Saying sorry and helping to pick them up again can help us to rebuild relationships. You could ask your family to help you with this activity so that you can all think about how you can show humility to each other.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UWahWPYFawo

You might like to listen to this and think about Jesus’ example of humility.

Spelling and Grammar

Today we’re going to continue practising our proof-reading skills. So again, please get those purple pens at the ready.

Last night, before going to bed I thought I’d try writing my own diary entry, but I was so tired that I’m afraid it isn’t that good – the quality could definitely be better!

Dear Diary,

Today was a good day because we went on our school trip. We went to a farm. It took us fifty minutes to get there. When we arrived we got put in groups. I got put with my friend Emma. We went to feed the lambs first. They were cute. I gave one a bottle of milk and she drank it. She was called Daisy. After that we went to help milk the cows. The cows Were big. We sat on a stool next to them and the farmer showed us how to pull the udder. It felt weird. I got a bit of milk out.

Page 20: primarysite-prod-sorted.s3.amazonaws.com · Web view2020/06/29  · Remember, to send me that weekly e-mail to let me know what you’ve been up to or share any work you’re really

Home Learning Week Commencing 29/06/20

Can you please read it and see what edits and improvements can be made?

I’m sure you can add lots more detail and description. For example, the simple sentence:

We went to a farm.

Could become…

We visited an old farm, surrounded by green meadows.

You may do this under yesterday’s work.

Top tip!

You could:

add more impressive vocabulary

add adjectives

add adverbs

add more detail

A copy of this diary entry can be found here:

English

Today we are going to take on the exciting challenge of planning our very own stories which are similar in plot to The Fantastic Mr Fox. We’re going to try and stay as true to the story as we can but just change some of the details to make it our own.

Your super story maps from Monday should help you with this but here are some further prompts, which will help remind us about the main events and with our planning:

1. The farmers were about as nasty and mean as any you could meet… 2. Meeting the family…what do they steal?3. Caught out, trapped!4. Make a plan…a fantastic plan!5. Meet other animals. A big feast…a toast to Mr Fox

Don’t forget that this story like most follows the structure of a story mountain:

Page 21: primarysite-prod-sorted.s3.amazonaws.com · Web view2020/06/29  · Remember, to send me that weekly e-mail to let me know what you’ve been up to or share any work you’re really

Home Learning Week Commencing 29/06/20

So the main plot of the story will stay the same, but you will have to make up your own animal family and enemies. Where is the story set in Fantastic Mr Fox? Where could yours stories be set? What animals could you use?

For example, my story is going to be about a family of bunny rabbits who live near some farms. Every night the Dad goes out and steals vegetables for his young from the three nearby farms. Farmer Joyce lives there very proudly growing her cabbages, Farmer Janet was the finest berry grower around with a crop of strawberries, raspberries, blueberries… Whilst Farmer Jean grows the most succulent carrots Little Willowton has ever seen. One day the rapid Mr Rabbit ventures out on his nightly adventure to get food for his family but the farmers are waiting so he gets shot losing part of his ear…

Page 22: primarysite-prod-sorted.s3.amazonaws.com · Web view2020/06/29  · Remember, to send me that weekly e-mail to let me know what you’ve been up to or share any work you’re really

Home Learning Week Commencing 29/06/20

Maybe though you don’t want to set your stories in a farm but in a jungle instead, in a bustling city or desert?

Have a think and then get planning!

In the front of your Writing Books:

LI: I can plan a narrative Wednesday 3 rd July 2020

1) Use the story mountain template to record the main events of your story.2) Add and write down any speech or dialogue your characters say –

Remember to put these in speech marks.3) Can you write down and include some actual sentences you will include?

Can you include the past progressive form of a verb?

Please use the following templates to help:

This normally takes us 1 to 1 ½ hours to complete.

Guided Reading & Spelling Practice

After finishing the part you’re reading today, please take the time to think about and predict what will happen next? What makes you think this will happen?

Computing

Today is a rather exciting computing lesson, as the results from our survey are in! Your challenge today is to use Microsoft Excel or another program which enables you to use spreadsheets, such as, Google Sheets.

Your task for today is to take a look at the data which can be found below. First of all take the time to read is and absorb the results. What does it reveal about our class reading trends? What types of readers are we? Then I would like you to get spend today getting some of this into a table format.

Please take a look at the following document for guidance and help:

Hopefully by the end of today your work may look something like this:

You do not have to create tables for all of the questions, although you may do if you wish. Why not just choose 2 to 4 to do?

You will therefore need to think about which questions are the most relevant. Does it really matter how long we read for each day or how we prefer to read?

Which questions are the most important when it comes to finding out how our money should be spent?

These are the ones that you then want to get up into tables!

We didn’t get the chance to use this program in school, so unless you are already familiar with it you will most probably have to ask a grow-up or adult to help you with this lesson. Today I would suggest you take some time to experiment and become as familiar as possible with the program and its tools.

Then, if or when you have a chance to use the computer go on to Times Tables Rockstars and practise your times tables.

Maths

You will need some squared paper and coloured pencils for this lesson.

MNP Textbook 3B – starting at p161, followed by Workbook, Worksheet 17, p109 (which can either be carried out in you Maths book, just like we do in school – remember to write the worksheet number and page number – or it can be completed in the photocopied workbook)

1) Take a look at the information presented In Focus, remember to cover up the Let’s Learn part to begin with. Is it possible to compare these fractions if they both have different denominators? What have we got to do?Sometimes a good way to compare these different types of fractions is by drawing a bar model. Can you draw a bar model to represent these fractions? Which is greater?

2) Check and look at the Let’s Learn.Did you get the same answer?Did your pictorial representations of the fractions look the same?Take a look at Q2 – Complete it using the correct symbol!

3) Give the Guided Practice p162 a go! You may want to carry out your workings for these in your Maths books.

4) Move on to carrying out the Worksheet 17 either on the copy you have, some of you may need to carry out the work in your Maths books.LI: I can compare fractions

5) Possible extension and challenge:ChallengeWrite some pairs of equivalent fractions, e.g. 2/4 = 1/2.Then move on to prove these pictorially.

AoW: 2.7.20 – Humility about our place in God’s amazing world

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kAGBqIA-fd4

Watch and enjoy this video clip about our amazing world.

Do you ever feel full of wonder about our amazing world? Look at the vast and beautiful world in which you live, how special and wonderful are you and yet so tiny! Enjoy the humility of looking outwards at the world with wonder and awe at the gift of all you see.

It is hard at the moment to think about what we can do to help and be part of our amazing world, but thinking of others in your close family and helping them, those who live nearby who are lonely and would appreciate a smile and wave through their window or a picture in your window for them to see. A phone call for those who live far away or a letter to a friend or loved one.

Why not choose something you can do – tiny little you, to show love to those around you either near or far.

Spelling and Grammar

Today we are going to look closely at the list of spellings you are learning this week. I’d like you to read the top bit. It says some of these words belong to the same word families. What do you think this means?

This means that they have a certain root part (main part) which is common. The words have just then had different prefixes and suffixes added to this part.

Can you work out the common (root) part of the first five words?

What about the rest of the words which letters do they have in common?

Hopefully you noticed the first set of words had ‘struct’ in them and second set ‘uni’.In your little yellow SPaG books, please write the title:Word Familiesinstruct

Page 27: primarysite-prod-sorted.s3.amazonaws.com · Web view2020/06/29  · Remember, to send me that weekly e-mail to let me know what you’ve been up to or share any work you’re really

Home Learning Week Commencing 29/06/20

unitPlease copy these words down in your book as you say them out loud. Then draw a box around the root part which means they are in the same word family and take an imaginary picture of it, as this should help you imprint it in your mind and remember it.

English

Today almost the whole of the lesson is going to be devoted to you writing your stories! Before you start take the time to re-read the plans you wrote yesterday with a purple pen and please make any small changes or improvements to your work.

Have you included any speech? Maybe you could add some.

Remember to look at last week’s direct speech checklist to remind yourself how this should be written.

Only one or two lines though, as we want to do lots of describing.

Please take a look at the features I would like you to include:

If you can do please print and stick a copy of this in your books.

Then in the front of your Writing Books:

LI: I can write the opening of a narrative Thursday 2 nd July 2020 It was one stormy afternoon in the middle of May when farmers Joyce, Janet and Jean sat huddled around a fire trying to warm their frozen fingers. They had spent the whole morning seeing to their crops and although they were rumoured by all to be the best in town, their faces definitely didn’t reflect this. They were all contorted and wrinkled up in anger, only relaxing when the occasional angry yelp was released.

Page 28: primarysite-prod-sorted.s3.amazonaws.com · Web view2020/06/29  · Remember, to send me that weekly e-mail to let me know what you’ve been up to or share any work you’re really

Home Learning Week Commencing 29/06/20

“We… we… we… must do something about that thieving rabbit,” Farmer Joyce cried out in exasperation, “he’s been stealing all my cabbages again!”The three ladies most certainly looked angry. In fact Farmer Joyce, who was a short and plump lady with uncontrollable frizzy hair, looked like a volcano about to explode.

Please also remember paragraphs and presentation! Every time you move on to writing a new part (box) of your plan please skip a line.

You will have two days in which to write your stories, so please take your time. Make sure you really think about your content and concentrate on your presentation. Today I only expect you to begin by describing your setting and characters. Then start with the build-up, you may just reach the problem or climax but please stop there. You will have tomorrow to complete these!

Once you have finished today please take the time to read your stories out loud and check for any basic errors. Do all your names start with capital letters? Is all your speech enclosed in two sets of speech marks?

This normally takes us around 1 to 1 ½ hours to complete.

Guided Reading & Spelling Practice

Today I would like you to take the time to read the following information all about flowers. Can you come up with at least five questions you would like answering having read this information? What has this information made you think about?

Do some spelling practice, too.

This normally takes us 30 to 45 minutes to complete.

Science

In Science we are going to continue our learning about plants, but we are now going to turn our focus to the flowering parts.

So, I’m going to give you the important task and challenge of learning as much information as you can about the different parts of the flower. Please use any books you may have on plants and the following websites to help! Take and make as many notes as you can in your little yellow Rough Books.

2) Check and look at the Let’s Learn.Did you get the same answer?Did you use the same methods (a bar model)?Try answering Q3.Are you able to simplify any of these answers (make them smaller)?

3) Give the Guided Practice p165 a go! You may want to carry out your workings for these in your Maths books.

4) Move on to carrying out the Worksheet 18 either on the copy you have, some of you may need to carry out the work in your Maths books..LI: I can add fractions

5) Possible extension and challenge:

AoW: 3.7.20 – Celebrate

Genesis 9:17: So God said to Noah, “This is the sign of the covenant I have established between me and all life on the earth.”

We are continuing to use the rainbow this week. Did you add thank you prayers to the rainbows on your windows? This week collect as many things as you can around home – or your space at school that are GREEN.

Why should we be grateful for these things? Are we thankful enough for all the things that God has given us?

Write a prayer to accompany the green of your prayer rainbow.

Why not take a photo of your orange things or your prayer, if you do, please share it with us. Send it to:

[email protected] and we can create our own rainbow prayer through photos.

Spelling and Grammar

Today we are going to continue the study of our spellings. Yesterday you should have copied them all out and find out which part they have in common.

Word Familiesinstructunit

Today I would like you to get a dictionary and find and write the definition of these words. Can you then work out how they are related in meaning? What does struct mean? What does uni mean?

Please get this all written down in your little yellow SPaG books, under yesterday’s work.

Possible Extension and Challenge: Can you also put these words in alphabetical order? The ones all beginning in uni are going to be particularly more challenging? Why don’t you time yourself… How long did you take?

English

Please see the following supportive video clip to help with this beginning part:

https://youtu.be/sK1xFjlqCkI

If you are unable to view the clip, don’t worry, just continue to read as normal.

Home Learning Week Commencing 29/06/20

Today you are going to spend the time finishing your stories.

Before you do, however, let’s take a look at how they are going so far. You will need your purple pens for this. Just like we have done in class, I would like you to go through each of the features of the narrative in turn and see if you can find them in your writing.

If I find it, I underline the feature in purple pen and write that number in the margin next to it.

Once you have finished can you please write a What Went Well and Even Better If…

WWW – I included lots of powerful verbs and punctuated dialogue

EBI – I included more adverbs and time connectives

Please then make the ‘Even Better If…’ your focus for today. Make sure you now include it in your work.

In the front of your Writing Books:

LI: I can continue and finish writing my narrativeThen the roof of the burrow began to shake and through the most minuscule of holes a tiny glint of silver could be seen.“Oh no, they’ve brought the diggers!” cried the youngest little rabbit in fear.“Don’t worry there’s still time to outsmart them.” Replied Mr Rabbit. He rapidly hopped over to the darkest corner of the burrow and began to dig, his paws were like shovels, sending dirt flying in all directions with every strike.“Come and help,” he hollered, “we haven’t got much time!”All of the little bunnies hastily hopped over with a look of panic in their eyes. They all began to dig as fast as they could…

Please remember every new part of the story mountain needs to be written in a new paragraph – so your story should have at least five! Also please pay particular care to presentation and spellings.

Once you have finished, please go back and read all your work out loud ensuring it makes sense. Can you check whether you have managed to include your ‘Even Better If…’ feature?

Page 36: primarysite-prod-sorted.s3.amazonaws.com · Web view2020/06/29  · Remember, to send me that weekly e-mail to let me know what you’ve been up to or share any work you’re really

Home Learning Week Commencing 29/06/20

If you can, underline the feature neatly with your purple pen, write the number in the margin of your book and tick it off.

This normally takes us 1 to 1 ½ hours to complete.

RE

Today we are going to continue learning about the religion of Sikhism and the practices Sikhs undertake in order to demonstrate their faith. We already know that they attend the Gurdwara, their place of worship but today we’re going to learn all about their holy book: The Guru Granth Sahib

Please begin by watching the following video clips ,if you can, to find out more:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/class-clips-video/religious-studies-ks2-the-guru-granth-sahib/zms2t39

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/z9gkq6f

You may wish to watch it twice and take notes the second time.

Then also take a look and read the following information:

Once you have finished in the back of your Writing Books:KQ: What is the Guru Granth Sahib?

Task 1

1) Write at least 5 interesting facts about the Guru Granth Sahib and describe how it is treated.

2) Please write down any questions you still or now have.3) Explain why you think we are learning about the Guru Granth Sahib.

Task 2

Write about something that is special to you and explain why.

Possible Further Extension and Challenge:

Are you able to compare this holy book to another holy book of your choice? In what ways are they different and in what ways are they similar?

Page 37: primarysite-prod-sorted.s3.amazonaws.com · Web view2020/06/29  · Remember, to send me that weekly e-mail to let me know what you’ve been up to or share any work you’re really

Home Learning Week Commencing 29/06/20

You may also find this website useful as it provides further information:https://kids.kiddle.co/Guru_Granth_Sahib

Then take some time to reflect:

What makes some things special and others not?

How do we show or let others know they are special?

This normally takes us around 1 to 1 ½ hours to complete.

Music / PSHE

We are going to continue exploring music which makes us feel happy! =o)

There are some exceptional and uplifting stories about how music has quite literally changed and improved lives.

Take a look at the following video, for example, and see what it did for some Paraguayan children who created their own instruments:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BnHLhQarzAQ

As you can see the instruments really do mean the world to them and can bring so much joy.

This is then what we are also going to try and do, we haven’t yet tried to tackle Mrs Robinson’s Big Band Project.

https://www.chevening.kent.sch.uk/music-1/

I would like you to spend the next 2 weeks designing and creating your very own homemade and upcycled instruments. Please make yours as eco and environmentally friendly as you can!

Page 38: primarysite-prod-sorted.s3.amazonaws.com · Web view2020/06/29  · Remember, to send me that weekly e-mail to let me know what you’ve been up to or share any work you’re really

Home Learning Week Commencing 29/06/20

Challenge: Are you able to create an instrument which either allows a variation in pitch or dynamics? (Please see the very colourful images (posters) which can be found at the bottom of Mrs Robinson’s page to remind yourself about this terminology.

If you have time or want to please carry out another Lockdown Journal activity:

This normally takes 30 to 45 minutes.

Choosing Time

Finally, reward yourselves with carrying out an activity of your choice – of course with your adult’s agreement. You may wish to go outside if it’s dry and build or create some outdoor crafts, do some art, play with some Lego or your favourite toy. You deserve it! Another incredible week of learning Class 3 – Well done!Lots of Love, Miss Sweeney
